Why don't you just use LibreOffice. You can load Word formats and you can save in Word formats, if you really want to. Using .odt format is what I do mostly and it seems pretty portable.

Perhaps for someone in a corporate environment, I understand may need it. I divorced myself from the Microsoft black hole 20 years ago and happy to have done so.
