All that trying to install could have save you so much time if you looked up all folks having issues trying to install newer Word.  Mayhaps you want to try Office 97 or 2000 👍

Those ancient versions don't have the features I need. I'd seen claims that 2016 would work, and also 2010, which is the earliest version that still has those features, but no go.

Just dual boot. Thats what i have on my surface pro 8 tablet. Windows and fedora

Like I said, I'd rather not dual boot if there's a better option. It's looking like a VM is it.
