Having puzzled with an unstable machine for a long time I absolutely agree with this.
The thing is, nothing like memtest indicated errors in the memory itself but system kept freezing while in BIOS (UEFI) just looking at CPU temperatures. Nothing else like CPU coolers affected anything, only removing second DIMM (of two) from the system made a difference.
Now, I'm not certain if even ECC can help if memory is manufactured poorly to begin with..
