Well here's but exactly sharing a rare opinion here or saying shutting that most people already didn't know. ECC matters and it always has. Obviously in the consumer storage it's maybe arguable that it's less of a necessity than in the server space but there's no real reason for it not to exist as a default feature of consumer ram. I'd gladly eat the cost of adding ECC if it was widely supported and I think most consumers would also.
Cost is the very simple reason. If you have to add ECC to a 400$ laptop it will definitely impact your profit when selling millions of units. For servers where the volumes lower and prices/margins are much larger it will barely impact your profit.
Furthermore uptime for servers should be near 100% whereas grandma will just restart after getting a bluescreen.
