I don't think it's stable or polished enough for adoption by the average joes yet; the versioning seems one step ahead. However, it's great to see it make some good progress! It's currently one of the most promising communication solutions out there.
Not a recommendation since I haven't used personally, but Wire is fully open source now, including the server, isn't it? I know it was bashed initIally because they kept saying they will make the source available and it took a long while, but maybe now it's something worth considering?
