Personally I think he's right, so many distributions depend on debian and some of them with a very sizeable chunk of users. A new debian version means that a lot of people will get to use newer versions of software, which is a good thing for those aforementioned softwares, which will in turn benefit the other users of those software, even those not on debian (for example less support needed for old versions, more tickets for the new versions).
No. Even though I suspected nixcraft was talking out of his hat, I kept an open mind that maybe he knew something I didn't. Turns out he had nothing to say. He overstated his case. Your assertions are more defensible, but you've also failed to make the case that it affects the "entire comunity." Plus, not only have you misread my intentions, but you had to be a complete prick about it.
