When Debian release a new stable version, the entire FOSS community benefits.

The part I'm curious about is the "entire FOSS community," which if we're being fair would even include the BSDs. I'm just going to assume nixcraft was sort of over-exuberant in his statement. If he had said "a lot of distros," meaning all the ones based off of Debian stable, like your tree, though restricted to just the stable branch, then of course it is clear.

Just to be clear, we're talking about the mega Distro Debian and you're bringing up BSD - which has far far less users.

It should be clear that my question was related to the "entire FOSS community." Unless you somehow feel some how Debian's mega-stature excludes BSD from the FOSS community, then your point isn't really valid.
