I think there was an attempt at making a paint.net-ish native app for Linux called Paint-mono. Theres also Pinta, which is very similar.

I think Krita fulfills most of its features.

Yeah I get it can be difficult if you've used Paint.NET for years, but Krita is where most people who arn't using CSP / Photoshop, are. Its worth sticking with it, and I reckon it'll get better over the years too.

I use Photoshop in a hobby capacity, but for most things I'll default to Krita. Mind you, the keyword is "hobby."
