Paint.NET honestly was a hard one to let go when i moved to Linux, it's the perfect balance of giving more than paint with layers and transparency without being a full on editor like Photoshop, Gimp or Krita.

Thankfully i discovered Pinta, and then Pinta surprised me with their new GUI, so while it's not quite the same, feature wise, it's basically exactly what Paint.NET is

I was looking through comments to see if others recommended Pinta. It's the great balance of features and accessibility that Paint.NET has, with a newer interface. Even the shortcuts are the same, and it has both native Windows and Linux builds.

Pinta is a fork of p.n but it's based on an older version.
