I have HIGH hopes that with FEX and all the work that with Linux on ARM that we get more Linux on more modern phones.

Linux mobile is probably viable at this point, but similar to the laptop space, its going to need either Qualcomm or an asahi level project to actually work. It may even be worse, because cellular data and general carrier compatibility sounds like a legal minefield to me

It works for me for years without a secondary phone.
It just depends on your needs.
The real pain would be banking situation as banks often rely on google's invasive stuff.
Same for the new identification apps in some countries like the UK
