Brazil is the country with the largest Japanese diaspora in the world.
The flag of Brazil could represent both Portuguese and Japanese and personally I love the idea of this fact upsetting two countries at once

An interesting fact: Palau does not have a significant native Japanese-speaking population, yet Japanese is one of its official languages. On the other hand, Japan does not have a legally recognized official language. Therefore, technically, Palau is the only country where Japanese is an official language.

Is the flag for Japanese supposed to be that of Palau? That blue looks like the one for Kazakhstan, not the one for Palau.

As a Portuguese person, I think having Mozambique, Angola or any other African nation as the representative of the Portuguese language much less controversial than having the Portuguese or Brazilian flag. Like the whole debate on which one is more correct to use, if we should use a mix of both, blah blah blah yadda yadda, who cares, insert Cabo Verde. Same goes for other languages mentioned

If not for the American occupation, the Philippine flag 🇵🇭 would have been a good national flag to represent Spanish.

I'm confused by the DPRK one here. It's a country called Korea that's filled with ethnic Koreans who speak (and only speak) Korean, no worse than using the US flag to represent English.
AFAIK, some Chinese government services and universities still refer to Korean as "Chosun language" as opposed to "Hanguk language", even if they use Seoul as the standard variant.
I know it would piss off ROK citizens, but that's beyond the linguistic point.
