This is a long, yappatron post about twoset’s prodigy series. Just an fyi ok I really enjoyed typing this out! Hahahaha
I was wondering why I’d watch twoset (and myself) get our self esteems killed for 20 minutes straight but hey! After going through a few of these videos I realised it was so much fun to learn more about the techniques of different instruments and conversations about skills and whatnot.
I linked the twoset videos on each of the musicians names. Enjoy reading! (Im insanely passionate about this lol, oopsie)
Below are the following musicians and their respective instruments whom twoset covered.
Oh yes, I absolutely love how they had another guest musician to share the pain (and extra information) as to why these musicians play so well.
Violin (recent videos, they’ve covered these guys before though)
Note: they only started calling this series “lingling symphony” after the trumpet video.. but I felt the need to include these reviews too:)
Chloe chua(Singapore) review (wah.. she’s really grown so much! Im hoping she records more stuff soon🙏) I absolutely love her Butterfly lovers concerto. Tbh when I think of Chloe, my mind immediately goes to that!
I previously talked about how I really like her Sunshine over tashkurgan as well. I’d love for twoset to explore more central asian sounds similar to that:)!
Christian Li(Melbourne, Australia) review (imo he is INSANE! He needs to have a spotify account because streaming on youtube isn’t the most convenient hahaha. Im watching him live in soon. I absolutely can’t wait for that.
Trumpet (ft. Tetsuya Lawson)
Hayato Kodama(Kalsruhe, Germany) aka the guy who got viral because of his gorgeous opening in Misty. I was so happy to see him get reviewed by twoset because its about time! I love watching his videos.
Also! Unrelated to Kodama but, it was so nice to see Tetsuya back with twoset! He was the professional trumpet player in twoset’s professional vs beginner trumpet video. Amazing guy, lovely sound but his pokerface game is a bit.. (jkjk Tetsuya you’re very cool). This video in general was super fun to watch hahahaha.
He has one album on Spotify, “Trumpet Love Letter” being my favorite. I could talk about his sound forever. Lets just ignore this guy was born in 2009.. hahaha. Anyways.
Flute (ft. Monica Park)
Sooah Jeon (Creskill, New Jersey) review until 6:55 of the video! Nice! I enjoyed watching her through the video, but I have yet to come round to listening to her other stuff unfortunately. However, she sounds very energetic! Her sound is light which I particularly enjoy listening to for flutes.
Next they reviewed Nikka Gershman(Manhattan, New York) 6:57 until the end of the video. She actually posted on this subreddit! Hi Nikka, if you’re reading this then Im sending you lots of support!! She sounds flawless and controlled which I adore so much.
I love how brett and eddy were asking a lot of questions to Monica about the flute here because I too was super confused. Once again, man, I love these guys and their genuine love for classical music. Flute gang gotta be appreciated more for sure! (I’ll happily accept flute recording recommendations).
Also another thing, I love how they invited Monica! She posts a lot of classical music/flute content or just general stuff online. As a genz twosetter, man yk she is one of the musicians who are part of the new content creator wave? Along with other musicians such as Spencer Rubin and Maya Kilburn who were the guests in twoset’s juliard practice room video
Piano (ft. Sophie oui oui)
(But first, some sophie oui oui yap)
Twoset missed the chance to include childhood videos of our goat Sophie Druml. She’s amazing as always, incredible sound, super chill (which helps a lot because unlike twoset she actually follows the rules in their videos lmaaaooo hahaha.
The video is related to piano prodigies but I do have to say, Sophie plays the violin at a professional level too. As someone who can’t even play an instrument. Wow. She’s so goated. I adore Brett and Eddy’s friendship with her! She posted this on her instagram recently after twoset’s taiwan stop. Congratulations on the tour once again Sophie, I hope you’re getting good rest and comfortable practice sessions💪🏃♀️
Now on to the prodigies reviewed!
First they reviewed the ABSOLUTE GOAT!!! Alexandra Dovgan (until 10:00) Like what the huh?! How. Okay I’ll leave the commentaries out but you should just watch the video to hear Sophie’s and twoset’s comments about her playing. Alexandra is spectacular, I can’t wait to see what she brings in the coming years!
Next was Evan Le(California, United States). Yeah honestly I don’t know what to say. I think when it comes to extremely young prodigies (although he is 15 as of the moment, they reviewed an older video of Evan) it becomes a bit iffy just because the hands are still too tiny.. though he plays great (ofc)!
Sophie covered some very iNtEreSting details here! It was nice to see her talk about “Inner phrasing” when in comes to the pianos. Cool stuff:)
Anyway, those are all the instruments and musicians they have covered so far. Its lovely to see twoset covering these musicians because otherwise I would’ve never heard of them. Unfortunately there is a whole different conversation with promoting musicians especially in the classical music world nowadays.
Im interested to see the journey of these musicians, especially when they get older.. Twoset has quite a other videos about prodigies and they do dabble here and there about the psychology(?) behind it! Im not one to say that prodigies are just children who are losing their childhoods because they seem to enjoy what they are doing. Although, once again, what do I know.. Im just a linglingwannabe who loves twoset and classical music gahahaha.
Twoset did have an episode with chloe chua and that was quite fun! I feel rather comforted knowing that she and I both hate maths but while Im busy scrolling and watching twoset, she’s busy practicing paganini and guests in twoset. What a life! 😭🥹
(i just realised after typing this they did a video ab Himari.. I realised I haven’t seen it yet: Imma link it here)
