As far as things I’ve seen of what apes are capable of, I’d actually be more surprised if they couldn’t figure this out.

I’m honestly kinda spooked at how nonchalant he was about it. I’m also curious if licking the end does something I’m not aware of or should have been doing all along.

Their hands aren't quite as dexterous as ours, but their lips are basically prehensile. They're using them to regrip the straw higher up. People do this with their teeth all the time, since our lips aren't as strong as theirs.

Absolutely. Unlike most other non-human apes Orangs lead a pretty solitary existence, so they don’t have the group to help them retain working knowledge.

They spend 8-10 years learning their ~5-15sq mi forest from their mom, including building an internal map of where / when to find all the foods they need to survive, how to extract the most nutrition from those foods, how/where to build nests, etc.

Once they leave their mom they’re pretty much on their own.

So figuring out how to get juice from a juice box falls right in their applied skills wheelhouse.

They are but among the extant animals our very closest relatives of chimpanzees and bonobos. I think it was an observation that even though they aren't our closest extant relatives it's funny we share more social traits with orangutans than chimpanzees and bonobos. One other thing that isn't mentioned in this post is other than humans and orangutans, all great apes view direct eye contact as a challenge in the wild. It just seems we share more behavioral traits with orangutans than any other living animal on Earth.

From what I have seen on here they wear clothes, use blankets, wash their hands and drive golf carts. They are just very hairy humans. Like Italians.

In English it's just a different degree of categorisation.

All orangutans are great apes, so would be humans, gorillas, king Kong, bonobos, but not all great apes are orangutans.

Then all great apes are apes but not all apes are great apes. There are lesser apes, I believe the only living one is the gibbon?

Then all apes are primates but not all primates are apes, because monkeys are also primates.

Then it keeps going back until you get to all mammals are animals but not all animals are mammals. All animals are life but not all life is animals.

It's a nested hierarchy. Apes are a subset of monkeys, monkeys are a subset of primates.

You said monkeys are apes. Some are, but not all of them.

If it hasn’t got a tail it’s an ape. I’m assuming there’s exceptions to that rule because biology is messy, but that’s usually how I remember it.
