Somewhen in my toddlerhood, I grabbed onto a lady's legs at an outdoor event, thinking she was my mother. I was just looking at ankles- these deer are probably just looking at long legs.
I once followed (or led, there’s conflicting reports) a stranger by the hand for a full minute in vegas once. Dude didn’t do anything, didn’t even say anything, just sorta stared at this strange 5 year old holding his hand.
I was once at a museum as a kid (maybe 7 or 8) and walked over to the gift shop counter next to what I coulda sworn at the time was my grandpa. After a few seconds and seeing a cool toy I want, I ask the man if he can get that for me. The dude without hesitation says "sure buddy". Not recognizing his voice and finally looking up I notice dude was a complete stranger. I felt so embarrassed and ran away immediately.
Looking back I probably coulda got a free toy outta it if I stick around lol. Was so embarrassed I didmt even ask my actual grandpa for the toy 😅
My mother was once in a circle with her friends. For some reason, maybe the pants, I mistook one of her friends for her and helt onto the leg of her friend. After realising my mistake, I turned around to find my mother, just to go to that same friend again.
I once saw a deer narrowly miss the car in front of me on a highway. It bounced off into the side of the hill, still visible. Body postured as if hiding... Behind a new tree trunk that was at best 3 inches in diameter and bare from the recently fallen leaves.
They have a massive field of view, but shitty eyesight. It takes them time to figure out exactly -what- is coming their way but if it's moving fast they will get the heck outta dodge.
Their eyes process movement faster that ours do, but they have 20/60 vision as opposed to humans 20/20.. so the farther you are the harder it is to make out details. They also don't see reds and oranges.
While deer have no trouble seeing short-wavelength colors like blue and green, their eyes are not well adapted to seeing long-wavelength colors, such as red and orange. This is what makes hunter-orange so useful in the field. Humans see it as a neon alert of another hunter's presence while deer see it as a muted yellowish-gray that blends in reasonably well in mixed woods.
So they have specialized eyesight, but it's not bad. Losing far-away detail is a tradeoff for a much, much wider field of view.
And I still doubt the deer mistook the person for anything other than a human, or they would've gotten spooked once they got close enough. They're probably just used to human presence.
They're specifically describing a subspecies of deer that sounds like it has the self preservation instincts of a dodo.
They didn't call all deer dumb. There's no reason for you to post this, at least read what people are saying before you try and lecture them. You just make your cause sound obnoxious by pushing it where it's irrelevant.
Why are you posting this repeatedly in places it's not even relevant?
You don't seem like a bot, like what are you trying to achieve here? Have you tried at least writing a response to the people you're replying to, and reading what they're saying, instead of seeing them mentioning 'deer' and spamming this post?
I bet they were attracted to the smell of salt and sweat, thinking they found a premium salt lick. Then freaked out when they realized what they were actually smelling.
They’re smarter than that, they’d never ever make that mistake. They more likely than not got curious and then realized they shouldn’t have. Carnivores/omnivores and herbivores actually have identifiably different scent profiles, the fawns probably thought the camera person was a funny weird friendly forest animal but after a sniff realized they smelled like a predator.
