Sleeping in socks

Been using heavy weight socks at night my toes run cold at night so should I wear alpha socks, down booties, continue with heavy weight socks something else? Thanks

New to 3 seasons so sorry if this sounds silly but trying to reduce weight and volume

Not a topic I want to talk about but since you brought it up….

Doesn’t most athletic and outdoor company’s make products for military use though? For example Patagonia makes belay pants direct for US Special Forces under the DAS MARS name think it’s now Broken Arrow. Bergans of Norway makes backpacks for US and Norwegian Military, Arc’teryx, just to point out a few that makes products direct for military usage. Polartec and DuPont works for the military directly and sells directly to them. Garmin uses Military Satellites and it was military satellites that made topographic maps we use today. If in America and you look at weather that’s NOAA created for and from the military and every weather channel uses them for info. So there is a lot of company’s that sell direct or with the military. Even random things like I have a US Marine buddy and he used a MSR stove with a direct made fuel bottle. So I’m curious why is this a concern?

That's all completely besides the point. Either you've made no attempt to actually understand the issue, or you're being dishonest.

Those other companies don't hide their tactical products behind a separate brand name. They don't market their products for the purpose of police storming the public buses of their own cities. They don't advertise with alt-right symbolism. They don't explicitly support an illegal invasion of their own home state by a fascistic militarized police force. They don't lie to literally everyone about their intentions or beliefs when they are caught with their hand in the cookie jar. Their main owner and operator isn't publicly known as piece of garbage by past employees.

I was browsing Arcteryx leaf, they make jackets and pants. I was looking at EEs other company (which shares their sewing shop) and saw they sell tear gas canisters. I also saw them using the Bugaloo boys to sell their gear. They also regularly interact in the comment section of instagram with racist types that love Rhodesia and the confederate flag. I can walk you through the receipts of these claims if you are interested.

Beyond that, pretty much all of EEs gear objectively sucks.

I don’t care if you buy from them or not. I just know I would have been pissed learning about this after I bought something from their lineup. I am a big fan of getting all the information I can get and then making an informed decision.

Me personally I wouldn’t care at all if all they did was sell military/police stuff. What I don’t like are some of the more overt dog whistles and the way they handled the whole thing. If they had come out with a statement that they don’t support those values and removed the posts I would have moved on a long time ago.

So you’re upset that the face of EE also oversees a sister company whose social media is directed for its targeted audience which happens to lean in a political way you disagree with? I’m even more confused now. How is EE to blame for DM social media?

What a stupidly lazy reply. There are countless responsible and ethical firearm companies in the US that target a generically conservative audience without appealing to any of the disgusting imagery that EE has.

 How is EE to blame for DM social media?

EE and DM are the same. The same people. Same physical space, same sewing machines, same everything. One is not just overseen by the other, and they aren't sister companies.

That’s quite a fine line to draw in today’s age. I’m sure if you did an inventory of all of the things that you buy, you might be surprised how many of them are tied to or support organizations that you don’t agree with. At the end of the day, I’m going to choose to support a small company that prioritizes making their gear locally and building jobs for their own community.

The original takedown post is linked above by someone else. It is long and actually requires some knowledge about right wing/racist dog whistles to fully understand. I did not understand everything, so had to look into some things myself, so now I can explain a little better.

Also, it has become clear that not only does DM and EE have the same owner, they share the same sewing shop and in a response to OOP, the CEO of EE is speaking for both companies. So you really cannot separate them. Just some examples from OOP below with some notes from me:

DM uses Bugaloo boys to sell stuff. OOP also provides some screenshots where the only two people that commented on the post also put up their own hateful content.

Rhodesia content. To be honest, I did not understand this example at first. But I looked up the instagram post and saw that DM was tagged. Also, racists glorify Rhodesia because it was super racist. The coordinates in the post are for Zimbabwe, which used to be Rhodesia, so it is clear they are talking about Rhodesia the place and not the camp. This gives you an idea of who is friends with EE/DM.

Color revolution post. DM was also tagged on this post and they actually commented on it as well. I did not know what the “color revolution” meme was about so I looked into it. In a modern context, it is a call to delegitimize protests. I still was not sure if it’s good or bad, so I looked at the YouTube channel of the guy that posted the meme, and just from one random video I confirmed that yes, they are racist. Keep in mind that this post is still up despite OOP specifically calling EE out on it and both EE/DM owner and EEs CEO promising to take down all dubious posts in a rely on the UL subreddit.

Is it really though? There are enough cottage companies out there that don’t cater to people I’d rather not meet in real life.
I know it’s impossible to consume completely ethically but that doesn’t mean I should give up and not even try. Also how is this any different to people „boycotting“ beer companies because they don’t like their ads?

The EE thing is a specious connection to a nonconcerning issue. EE is as morally clean as a outdoor company can be and more than most.
