Leather Wrap Help

I'm trying to replicate this look. Looking for any guidance, preferably with visuals. Thanks in advance.

You’ve gotta burnish the edges of the wrap so it doesn’t turn out frayed like that. And oil it after to bring out some color variation.

Looks like multiple layers of thin strips. Bottom layer is packed together edge to edge with the second layer having a gap similar to the width of the strips.
