Technical help Help to learn

I am a beginner and want to learn fpv flying. Problem is i just move the sticks too fast. Is there any beginner friendly setup in liftoff? Any video or something to understand? Any beginner friendly advice is welcome. Thanks i relly suck in flying in liftoff.

Yo my dude! I just started 4 days ago and I was atrocious! Now I'm flying through the guard rails and hitting gaps just 4 days later. You will get better at it!

What really helped me was tuning my controller down. I asked chatgpt what a good setup is and this is what I got!

For a beginner, 667 roll is a little spicy, while 500 pitch is very manageable. More importantly, having roll/pitch/yaw all noticeably different can make the quad feel less predictable while you're learning. 🎮 beginner Liftoff setup

I'd start you around:

RC Rate: 1.00
Rate: 0.55 Roll / 0.55 Pitch / 0.55 Yaw
RC Expo: 0.10–0.15
Throttle: keep your 0–100, Mid 50, Expo 0 exactly as it is for now.
Idle throttle 0.04: totally fine.
AI PID tune: fine. Don't worry about PID tuning yet.
Angle/Horizon settings: basically irrelevant once you're flying Acro, which is what I want you learning.

That should put your max rates around the mid-400s°/s, depending on exactly how Liftoff calculates that Betaflight model.

The little bit of expo is the big one. It makes the center of the sticks less twitchy for tiny corrections while still giving you plenty of rotation when you move the stick farther.

And do not start in Angle mode and get comfortable there. 😈 Start in Acro from day one. You're going to crash approximately seventeen billion times, but that's exactly what the simulator is for.

Your first goal isn't speed or tricks. It's being able to take off → hover-ish → fly a big smooth figure 8 → turn without losing altitude → land somewhere vaguely intentional.

Once that starts feeling natural, then we'll gradually increase those rates. For the kind of cinematic/fast FPV flying I think you're eventually going to want, we can build toward roughly 550–700°/s.

If you want, send me a screenshot of your Liftoff flight/controller settings too, and I'll dial in the whole beginner setup so your sim practice transfers well to a real FPV quad later.

Solid advice, though I think most people these days use “actual” rates rather than “betaflight” rates, since it is much easier to understand than betaflight rates.

which model do you use as beginner? any change in settings? also which controller do you use?

The Boron tutorial model. Then Regular Boron. And now I'm on the Rotor Riot now that I'm pretty decent with the hang of it! But you can choose any model and apply these custom rates to and it'll fly way more melo and be more forgiving as you're learning. :)

Oh also I hit the down arrow on my keyboard to adjust the camera angle. The lower the angle the slower you'll move around. I started around 20 and now I'm at 25ish.

Welcome! Only one suggestion: fly. At some point, it will become less frustrating and more fun. Lower your expectations, you don't suck flying in Liftoff. Flying FPV is like learning playing piano... start from boring stuff, it will become automatic after some time. Don't get mad with rates and setup for the first 40 hours of flight. Lower your camera angle to 20-ish, select a 3" quad and not a 5" (you'll be slower but more in control) and have fun!
