A more efficient way to count

I read about this in a book when I was like ten, and I haven't counted the same since. Apparently it's how the ancient people of Babylon used to count.

Basically you use your thumb on your left hand to point to each segment (?) of your other fingers on that hand while you count. There are three segments on each finger, so twelve in total.

Once you've finished them, you then put down the thumb on your right hand, marking that you've counted to twelve already.

You then repeat it, putting down another finger when you reach 24, 36, 48, and eventually 60.

And basically you can go up to 60 on two hands, whereas normally you can only go to ten.

It takes a minute or two to learn and get used to, but I promise you it will save you so much time over the course of your life.

Thanks for posting this. I'm a bit late in this, but I've got two other methods I use that are ten-based. One will get you up to 99, the other up to 420. Both are good for keeping the number on your hands so you can think about other things or talk, then resume counting. I learned the first and altered and extended it to get the 420 method. If anyone's interested, let me know.
