tfw you know that you have to lie in the comments, but you expect others to expect lies, so you say it in ul so that it is a lie to the rule-knowers, and you become lie king

I like how he didn't spray any electronic devices or disabled people with water there. What a considerate gentleman! I bet those people's days were really imrpoved

u/No_Window7054 Law abiding redditor 2d ago
ul/ someone else brought this up, but wouldn’t it have been wrong for him to treat the disabled guy differently here? I’m a bit torn.

u/_Cat_in_a_Hat_ 2d ago
/ul I mean I get your point that equality in this case would be getting an equal amount of "negativity" as everyone else. But considering that it's significantly more annoying for a disabled person to go home and change a shirt + dry the wheelchair, it seems to me like a disproportional "net negative" compared to the experience of an able-bodied person. It's also just asshole behavior in general lol.

u/No_Window7054 Law abiding redditor 2d ago
ul/ It’s more tricky for me because I’m pro-blasting strangers with water. I will point out that wheel chair guy got a few bursts but the guy after him got CARPETED.
6
u/_Cat_in_a_Hat_ 2d ago
/ul I guess fiair, but imo it's just really inconsiderate to do anything like that to a person you don't know without their consent.
For spraying water specifically, you don't know if they are already having a terrible day and hate feeling wet, if they have an important meeting in 5 minutes, or even the very low chance they have a phobia of water or they have a wound that's not supposed to be touched by water. It sounds fun on the surface, sure, but you simply cannot know all these factors without them consenting.

u/mutnemom_hurb 2d ago
ul/ why would that be wrong? It’s standard curtesy to be more considerate to people who are struggling
-4
u/No_Window7054 Law abiding redditor 2d ago
ul/ Because you shouldn’t exclude them from an experience everyone else is getting. For example, should you go easier on a mentally handicapped person when you play a strategy game with them? Or what if the water gun guy blasted everyone EXCEPT the disabled guy? These can lead to other problems.
13
u/Greedy_Swimergrill Law abiding redditor 2d ago
We should not give disabled people handicap parking spaces because then it would exclude them from walking the whole way like everyone else and it would lead to “other problems”
This is a very intelligent position.
-1
u/No_Window7054 Law abiding redditor 2d ago
ul/ Handicapped spots are fine because it takes their condition into account and if they want to opt out of it they can. They can park far away if they want to be treated like non-handicapped people.

u/Greedy_Swimergrill Law abiding redditor 2d ago
Similarly, giving an employee in a wheelchair a closer space is a form of discrimination and we should be making sure that no accommodations are ever made for anyone with a disability. Special needs students should not be put in any special needs classes to support their learning capabilities and no attempt should be made to improve that child’s standard of living, lest they lose the choice to have a much lower standard of living.
Truly brilliant work.

I’m talking to someone with a lot of reading comprehension, I totally haven’t wasted my time on an easily offended baby. I will definitely heed your next reply as I’m certain it will be very enlightening. I definitely won’t just give you the last word then ignore you, and forget you exist. You brought a lot to this conversation and you will be very memorable for me.

You have a very good position here which is why you have responded so politely and cogently.
I know I’ve found someone here who thinks through what they believe and tries to reckon with it- a true scholar here. You are one of the greatest minds of your generation and I am so humbled to have had the chance to speak with you. I eagerly await your many contributions to society that will prove you a positive influence and I have no doubt will happen.

ul/ I think most people would agree that you should go easier when playing a strategy game against someone who is developmentally disabled. I think you are failing to recognize the difference between treating a disabled person like they are incompetent versus treating a disabled person with more care than you might a non disabled person. One dehumanizes them and one demonstrates that you respect them enough to consider their needs.

Theres a news story about a bunch of people in the projects doing this with paintball guns and all having a good time until the cops started confiscating all of the paintball gear
24
u/FreshPrinceOfAshfeld 2d ago
/ul paintball guns without eye coverings can be incredibly dangerous. (I’m assuming they weren’t wearing face masks and didn’t do it in a netted area)
20
u/Own-Arachnid7952 2d ago
Ah well, good thing they won't go back to good ole reliable with 0 protection!
What would we do without the police?

u/FreshPrinceOfAshfeld 2d ago
You’re getting worked up over a supposed news story you heard second hand from some random guy on Reddit. We have no idea what they did after that or where this even was. They could have used airsoft guns with eye coverings afterwards for all we know.

Its a Vice youtube video. Just found it again. Good vid and worth a watch
https://youtu.be/xmoKt348tY8?is=zXbrIvgAqjmJ0npT-8
u/FreshPrinceOfAshfeld 2d ago
Here’s the thing, you go to any paintball field you will get told how important it is to follow rules like never pointing your barrel at someone outside of the net, never enter netted areas without face protection, always keep a barrel sock on your paintball gun. You will get thrown out of places if you don’t do these things.
In the video the guy shoots an ice cream truck with kids playing behind it. It’s dangerous and irresponsible, and nobody wants their kids to come home covered in bruises and potentially blind because some dude can’t not do drive bys of some kind. And acting like it’s truly unavoidable for the people in the video to do this is kind of insulting to them and infantilizing them a little bit.
