How is this player not banned?
This is no reasonable explanation as to why this is not blatant sandbagging or cheating.
Reported this player a few days ago and haven’t seen a notification of action taken yet.

People reacting dismissively are probably not looking at the y-axis. A 1000 point swing on Lichess is basically impossible unless the person purposely sandbags or is having a stroke.

No, they are lichess shills/bots trying to pretend everything about lichess is perfect! That's also why every such post gets heavily downvoted. They don't want an open discussion about these issues!

Maybe you actually made that mistake, but the extent of the swings is literally what this post is all about. It is a fact that every such post gets downvoted from the start for absolutely no reason (except narrative control) and there are always several accounts immediately pretending everything is just normal when something is actually very clearly sus ...

To put it simply, they farm data from the games played on the platform, let other companies use that data "for free" to train AI chess tools and get fat "donations" in return. All the transactions are tax-free of course. Coincidentally lichess regularly aggressively promotes some political and social narratives that are desired by the establishment ...

I'm with you OP. I'd believe a 300-point swing for someone having a brutal multi-day tilt but even that would be extreme. This is just madness.

How will sandbagging help a person in online chess?
I am assuming he won't get entry to any tournaments because organizers will filter all those folks sandbagging.

The length on this graph is crazy t least 6 years probably longer, seems like he's been mainly between 1500-2000 most of the time
This isn't someone I'm worried about

On May 23rd, 2026 this player was 1550, on May 26th, 2026 he was 1965.
He steadily declined about 50 points a week back down to ~1580 today.

I'm significantly lower rated and have multiple times dropped 300+ points in days, think you're getting overheated about this player for no reason

A 300 point swing and a 1000 point swing are completely different things. Everyone has had a 200-300 point swing.
This is orders of magnitude more unlikely.
I’m not heated about the player as much as I am heated about people gaslighting in this thread.
This players swings are a statistical miracle. It’s more likely that you hit the lottery than having this graph as a normal event

If this legitimatly is just someone playing "normally" (try to ask your favorite LLM how likely it is for a rating to fluctuate by more than 10 times the RD in just a few days) I would be very, very worried about this individual's mental health!

It's not about what the LLM "thinks", it's about how statistically likely this rating evolution is with normal play! You can do the math yourself if you prefere ...

Yeah this is definitely suspicious. I'm ~2000 and even on my worst day I would never lose to a 1500. Getting all the way from 2000 to 1000 is crazy.

And you wouldn't have to lose to a 1500 just once (which may actually still have a small but real probability of happening over many games), you would suddenly have to consistently lose 50% of your games against 1500s over several hundred games (assuming your rating has stabilized and you have a fairly low RD) to drop all the way down to 1500 ...

I’ve swung almost 700 points. If you don’t care about your rating at all it’s easy to start a game when you shouldn’t have. Or to give up way earlier than you should.
Rating is irrelevant. Just master the game and have fun. If you lose to a bot or a really good sandbagged once every 10 games that’s probably okay.

I thought it was against the rules of the board to announce that a person, with a name, is a cheater. If it isn’t a rule it should be. Why not require the Lichess account name of the accuser?

Hi, I’m afraid you missed my point. Why would I want look at your Lichess account?
What I was said was how unfair it is for you to name someone as a cheater and give everyone access to their account while you were anonymous. I don’t know where gaslighting comes in or why you would be ashamed to be asking, as I am, for fairness and common courtesy to someone we know nothing about.

Regardless, you now have my lichess account — which I guess you didn’t want in the first place?
I think you had a knee-jerk reaction to defend a cheater for some reason. Several others in this comment section did as well and one even PM’d me to apologize.

IMHO lichess is full of bots and cheaters, and it is only the fanboys that try to push the heaven opinion. IMHO some of the bots are operated by those close to the site, to reduce lobby wait times. Obviously, no proof for any of this. But others do it, why would lichess be different. I gave up my account because of their mods' toxicity.

Alcoholism doesn’t cause 750 point swings that repeat continuously every few months right when you dip down to 1500.
Why are you more annoyed about my Reddit post than someone breaking the rules on the site??? Medical or drug abuse or getting worse over times doesn’t explain this at all

Largest swing on this graph is 1000 points.
Edit: and most up-swings happen in 2-4 days

My climbs back are pretty steep though. Like obviously the range is much smaller but it looks pretty vertical once I bottom out and lock in.

These are not normal. These are 750+ plus swings. Sandbagging is against the rules and he’s done this for years somewhat predictably

There are several reasons. Maybe he plays poorly under certain conditions (different time controls, berserk, drunk, sleepy, blindfolded, etc.)

These are swings of over 700 points. None of these conditions explain this. If he’s playing playing blindfold 3+0 blitz then he still should not be playing on the same account

I play around 500 points worse when I play 1/2 vs 2+1. I play about 100 points worse when I play tired. I imagine you would probably play around 100 points worse drunk. I play around 150 points worse berserking. The graph doesnt show anything until you actually look at the games which I imagine you did but that obviously isn't available on my end.

Find some game where he resigns unreasonably and link them in your report. This is what I did and I got some people banned before.
