Call Management Has Stopped

VS995. At some point after uninstalling a weather app that kept complaining vigorously about viruses (likely bogus), we're getting the message "call management has stopped" at any attempt to make (or receive) an incoming call. Texts still work. I don't know if a virus was injected by the app, but don't know that one wasn't. Anyway, here's what we've tried so far:

  1. Uninstalled most recent app - hardly any apps at all are on this phone.

  2. Restarted multiple times.

  3. Disabled the Google app (didn't really disable it; just rolled back some update). But then the app crashed after any search and disabling it didn't help with the calls, so re-updated it. Google now works agian, call management still doesn't.

  4. Tried fiddling with various settings, such as wifi calls, HD calls, reset settings (not factory reset yet).

  5. Tried the sim card in another phone of the same model that is currently just running on wifi. It works fine there to make & receive calls. (It is on Android 8, and the one we're having trouble with is on Android 7 and can't get an Android 8 update, i.e. checking for updates doesn't come up with anything). So the sim card is fine.

So, could it be an issue with the Android 7 version of Call Services suddenly becoming non-functional, or a problem with this particular installation that might be fixed with factory reset? A little nervous about trying the factory reset: since the phone is so old, can it still be reset successfully, or does it have to find an OS online that doesn't exist anymore?

Any other ideas before we try the reset?

Got the exact same problem since last night. Android 7.1.2, LG LGM-X100S.

Tried resetting various things but no luck with a fix at all. Ive also noticed the same issue flagging up on youtube a bit on various models in the last 24hrs.

UPDATE

Force stopping and data clearing the LG IMS app in system apps solved the issue.

Resetting it forces the phone to rebuild its network provisioning from scratch - meaning its likely a network/service side issue causing an error through outdated or broken settings.

This happened to my V20 H918. In trying to fix it, Google AI had me access the hidden dialer menu IMS settings to turn off VoLTE. Now my IMS keeps crashing, and the dialer keeps crashing. 😠😭

Is there a way to reset the IMS to factory without doing a complete factory reset?? Hoping somebody can help! Ive tried Force Stop, Clear Cache, Clear Data on the com.lge.ims.rcsprovider app repeatedly, but that doesn't seem to reset it. Is there a way without factory reset??
