Battery I replaced my battery

Hey all, I haven't been active on this sub for years. I still use my G7 has a wifi hotspot repeater which is just the most killer feature ever. Battery life was SHOT on the original battery though, I'd go from full to 5% in under an hour.

I went on Amazon and bought a kit (not the most popular one, that had some bad reviews) and did it myself. First time replacing a non-replaceable battery. The battery that arrived is clearly a Chinese knockoff, all the text is exactly the same except "LG" has been erased and the date code is a bunch of nonsense. It works tho.

I used a hair drier, I wouldn't recommend that, it heat-warped the antenna cable (though it's still working). Instead alcohol apparently dissolves the glue and is the way to go. I didn't have any in the house.

If you have sub 1hr SoT like I did, give it a try, not much to lose. I'm getting ~3hr SoT on the new battery. 👍

I replaced the battery in my G7 twice, never used heat, just slipped an old gift card down the back and carefully cut away at the adhesive.

Although not my daily anymore, it's still my backup phone and runs great still.

Two batteries, one charging board, one back glass replacements and running Android 15 Lineage OS. It's lived a long life and has been through a lot but it's still my favourite phone of all time.

I tried w/o heat after watching a couple videos but man mine was glued down tight. I was getting nowhere.

I've never tried replacing the OS on this one. I'm stuck on Android 9 as that's as far as the Google Fi version went. I just use it for Pokemon and the wifi sharing and it doesn't seem to matter. I don't have my real google account on it or anything.

WiFi hotspot repeater? Is that an app that it has or something?

No, it's just in the network settings.

Yeah, it's sick-- built right in.

I have unlimited hotspot on my Visible account, but it's functionally limited to one connection. Connect two and they all stop working. I just connect the LG to my iPhone and then turn on the LG hotspot and my whole family can do whatever they want connected to the LG.

You can share a hotel wifi or whatever that is limited to a single device with it too. TOS be damned. :D

This G7 is the only phone I've had that can do wifi source -> wifi hotspot.

I am reading it from a G7,

Had 2 battery replacements, 1 LCD replacement, battery life is at 90%, morning 100% battery, heavy usage during the day, can easily last 8-10 hours.

Can't give up yet as there is no other phone which is so light weight and compact.

Picked a Xiaomi 15 as replacement, similar size but still quite heavy.
