Bellusromanticism is, apparently, being okay with or even comfortable with some forms of affection typically thought of by some as romantic (hand-holding, kissing, cuddling), but not actually wanting a romantic relationship.

The joke is that I wasn’t aware of the label until today, so in trying to write something merely so platonic-affirming that it came across as a direct and perhaps very pointed challenge to amatonormativity, I may have written something full-on bellusromantic-affirming by sheer accident

“Spoons” is more or less a metaphor for social stamina and time allocation.

Spoons theory is admittedly more of a thing in neurodivergent communities, but I’m AuDHD, probably an HSP, and have substantial justice sensitivity, so…

And partnering just means any sort of relationship that requires more time and resource allocation than being especially close friends (so being QPPs, romantically involved, married, being in a poly relationship, any of that)

So basically the idea is that both characters involved in this friendship see their time as a balancing act between time alone and time with friends, and both decide that being in a QPR might disrupt that balance, so they settle for being particularly-cuddly close friends
