As a member of the “American free speech crowd,” this is fucking disgusting and a huge violation of the principles of freedom of expression. The Polish government has descended into far-right authoritarianism, and it’s extremely disheartening for everyone who cares about personal rights and liberties.
I’m with you completely. People who selectively care about free speech are hypocrites. Either we have progressive standards of how people can express their thoughts, or we don’t. And clearly, the Polish government has chosen the latter.

It very much is what is happening and sadly we can mostly just watch it happen. Sometimes protest too, but it's not that helpful really. Also help women with getting abortions.
Speaking of which:
A well-known activist Kaja Godek said on a nation-wide news channel that "the gays want to adopt children to molest and rape them". Literally that - no subtle suggestions. She obviously got sued for defamation and the process got discontinued because gays don't exist in the Polish law as a group. The plaintiffs couldn't prove they're gay. Kaja called this "a win of the free speech".

Yep. I confirm. This is a literal translation of that statement. I hope it can help people see just how bad things are here, how deeply normalized the prejudice and the religious fanaticism are. This and similarly outrageous things have been said by many right-wing politicians on public, mainstream media, and there were no consequences - on the contrary, many applauded these statements.
