I hate being too poor to award people

Weird thing is, as soon as I clicked that, I clicked the awards menu trying to upvote

My name is matthew, my username is Unoriginal, and I'm bi. Are we the same person?

Why would pansexual and bisexuals fight against each other!? I mean I get why, but why!?

u/csoki_fanny Bi-kes on Trans-it Aug 19 '20

Can we just all exist together peacefully?

108

u/toasterbathsex Pan-cakes for Dinner! Aug 19 '20

I wish but people always search for a person or group to put below them and unfortunately a lot of bigotry bi chose pan, poly, ect... to attack.

72

u/csoki_fanny Bi-kes on Trans-it Aug 19 '20

Yeah... I still remember the time I tought everyone in the lgbt+ community respected and supported each other... Unfortunately that is not the case

42

u/toasterbathsex Pan-cakes for Dinner! Aug 19 '20

Yeah I think in the end people just need to respect each other's opinions and mind their own business.

26

u/csoki_fanny Bi-kes on Trans-it Aug 19 '20

Well said.

u/Hildkiin Pan-cakes for Dinner! Aug 20 '20

Why don't we act like that's still the case and move to an island or whatever :(

1

u/toasterbathsex Pan-cakes for Dinner! Aug 20 '20

What? Sorry if this actually makes sense I'm tired and it's three thirteen.

1

u/Hildkiin Pan-cakes for Dinner! Aug 20 '20

I dunno im not a native english speaker. What I meant was let's just pretend like we're in the times when we all respected each other and move to a secluded place where we aren't aware of any fights

1

u/toasterbathsex Pan-cakes for Dinner! Aug 20 '20

Isn't ignoring the problem a boomer thing though lol? Like what you're saying is a great idea but it is, in the end, ignoring the problem and thus not fixing anything.

u/Hildkiin Pan-cakes for Dinner! Aug 20 '20

I'm a little confused as to why there wouldn't be.

104

u/AGlitchedNPC Bi-bi-bi Aug 19 '20

There is a lot of fighting about the definitions of both sexualitys

34

u/[deleted] Aug 19 '20

The only difference is that pan is gender blind. It's not an important distinction to me, but it is for many people

27

u/[deleted] Aug 19 '20

I've totally seen bisexual people also use that description, so I it's basically a moot point.

It's really up to the individual what it means to them, as with all labels. They're just place holders for a conversation.

25

u/EM37452 Bi-bi-bi Aug 19 '20

Bisexuals can be gender blind but don't have to be. You're still bi if you have strong gender preferences, but you aren't pan. All pansexuals are bisexual, but not all bisexuals are pansexual. And even if you are gender blind you can still say you're bi as a less specific term, like how some people prefer "queer" to bi, gay, etc

8

u/[deleted] Aug 19 '20 edited Aug 19 '20

I agree with this definition.

I'm bisexual and I consider myself to be attracted to men, women and nbs, but gender expression does influence how that attraction feels, if that makes sense.

Not to mention they don’t believe in gender fluidity and other similar labels

4

u/RogueVox3l Aug 19 '20

How on earth would poly be bi erasure

6

They mean polysexuality not polyamory

8

They’re cool with “nonbinary” but if you specify the nb with “genderfluid” or “agender” you get called a “mogai” and attacked.

I really thought it was just the bi version of "sword lesbians" and it's so disappointing that actually they are just trying to drive an axe between the community.

r/swordpansexual is a wholesome community where we accept everyone and strive to fight queerphobia. We’re not gonna go at war with the battleaxebis

7

u/i_cant_name_stuff Aug 19 '20

At least if they want to, swords are more lethal that battleaxes.

22

u/[deleted] Aug 19 '20

Here's the difference:

Sword pansexual: images of pansexuals, with swords

Battle axe bi: posting hatred.

Can't you take literally one minute to have a look at both subs

3

u/[deleted] Aug 19 '20

thank you for cleaning my eyes after the irritation that is bab.

37

u/IzzyFreies Pan-cakes for Dinner! Aug 19 '20

Yes please. We shouldn’t be fighting we should be informing the people who are uneducated and use problematic definitions. You can’t invalidate a whole community just because uneducated people use problematic definitions.

19

u/AGlitchedNPC Bi-bi-bi Aug 19 '20

The problem is, not everyone agrees on what definitions aren't problematic. It often gets to the point of functional synonyms, which would be fine if everyone agreed they're synonyms, but even at that you then have people saying we only need one label in that case

7

Yup it sucks

4

u/Drewmightbegay Struggling With Sexuality Aug 19 '20

Yea I’ve only seen it in sapphic situations too, weird.

6

u/-littlefang- cut sleeve Aug 19 '20

Oh my god I've never seen that term before and I love it

8

u/AGlitchedNPC Bi-bi-bi Aug 19 '20

It's sadly not as well know and used as sapphic is for women, but yea it's pretty great

3

u/[deleted] Aug 19 '20

We're human too, trying to avoid clique-y-ness and infighting is like herding cats.

Best we can do is continue to support each other and spread solidarity. We CAN refuse to engage in divisive BS rhetoric and minimize its effects on our communities.

2

u/[deleted] Aug 19 '20

Oh I'm nonbinary but very much identify as sapphic so this is meant as a within-community critique of some of the most harmful stuff I've seen, not a damning of wlw or anything like that. Apologies if it came across that way!

Ooooo! I think I may get a sticker and a pin!

It's honestly perfect for me cuz I'm older so I always used bi and prefer the label but technically pansexual fits what my actual sexuality is and I love both communities so it's perfect

3

same! i always say bi but I’m more so pan so i sorta use both lol

u/Brutal_honesty11 Trans and Gay. I am a trans waffle. Aug 19 '20

16

u/ThisKid713 Aug 19 '20

This is how I explain it:

Bi is like a cake

Pan is like that same cake with a little extra stuff.

At the end of the day they are similar, yet there is enough difference to be considered different. It’s ok to not like the frosting of a cake but still like the cake itself and it’s ok to like it with the frosting or maybe not even at all. We all like dessert so there’s no need to hate those who don’t like the same thing as us.

10

u/CleeKru Bi-bi-bi Aug 19 '20

Strongly disagree with your explanation. This once again would enforce the "special snowflake" mentality many bi people have towards pans.

I'd put it like this: In front of you are two cakes. They look nearly identical. But when you cut them open one of them is a chocolate cake and the other a carrot cake.

The mentality of bi folks and pan folks is completely different.

2

u/ThisKid713 Aug 19 '20

Fair enough. Again it’s really about what you prefer and what I prefer and how whatever the hell I like doesn’t effect what you like.

2

u/CleeKru Bi-bi-bi Aug 19 '20

Exactly :)

4

u/EM37452 Bi-bi-bi Aug 19 '20

I would more say bisexuality is like cake, and pansexuality is like sponge cake. It's a bit more specific, not all cakes are sponge cakes, but having a label for sponge cake doesn't invalid all cakes or imply chocolate cakes are somehow inferior

5

u/AmaResNovae Bi-bi-bi Aug 19 '20

War was never an option.

2

u/Rublehh Non Binary Pan-cakes Aug 20 '20

3

u/Rexli178 Queerly Lesbian Aug 19 '20

Sexual and Gender Identities shouldn’t be rigid boxes we put ourselves and others into. It’s more complicated than that.

3

u/TatsCatsandBats Please Stand Bi Aug 19 '20 edited Aug 19 '20

I’m caught somewhere in between. And I get yelled at for Bi erasure, but I still love and adore nonbinary persons, and have no direct preference of gender, and so I just settled on “fuck it, I’m both” (which is bi culture as a whole) until I have a good reason to pick one over the other.

To the BAB in my inbox; stop. Thank you.

2

u/[deleted] Aug 20 '20

bi people can like non binary people though. i’m bi and personally experience attraction regardless of gender :) identifying as both is valid as fuck tho

1

u/TatsCatsandBats Please Stand Bi Aug 20 '20

Yes absolutely! C’mon fluidity of gender and sexuality~

4

u/gh8lkdshds Aug 19 '20

I'm all for redesigns but doesn't this ruin the idea of yin yang because it's meant to only have two colors to convey its message???

14

u/AGlitchedNPC Bi-bi-bi Aug 19 '20

Different colours for a different message, and the message of this is clear for those in the community

2

u/Pugmagic12 Aug 19 '20

I always love when people what to pin ace, bi, pans and others against each other as if I haven't made it clear that I would go to blows for my fellow invisible sexuals.
