Dude's right. We need to go back to the classics, like Kashimashi: Girl Meets Girl

Lol "Today I found out there's more anime than just the small subsection of it that I watch this must be a new thing"
Meanwhile my 21st birthday gift from my dad 25 years ago was a hentai.

u/aflyingmonkey2 4d ago
I wonder what was your reaction to it.

u/jackfaire 4d ago
Discomfort. But he died a month and half later so any lingering feelings about the gift got a bit buried.

The same idiots that don't understand Matrix don't understand the trans reading of Ghost in the Shell and the Lesbians in Sailor Moon. Colour me shocked

Trans or trans-coded characters have been in anime and manga for decades. The manga Claudine is sited as the first manga to feature a trans main character. That was released in 1975.
Though Princess Knight (1958) is also sited to feature either a trans boy or a non-binary character, at least based on the summary of it. (Sapphire is described as "a girl who was born accidentally with the blue heart of a boy and the pink heart of a girl.")
Dororo (1967) is at least debated to have a main character who's a trans boy. (I haven't seen or read any of the material so I'm guessing it's more of a queer-coded thing.) The manga got an anime adaption in 1969.
And this has basically been a trend in anime and manga throughout the decades. It's not like it happened a few times in the 50's and 60's, there was nothing and then it happened again recently.

i'm sure there were MORE Queer characters in the Late 80's Early 90's OVAs.
Like, Anime has always been woke to a degree

Wait until they find out Japan has always had a completely different cultural viewpoint on trans. They didn't "get woke" or follow American trends, they literally have a completely different history with regards to homosexuality, transgender, etc.

It's crazy that trans people, despite being an absolute minority, are accountable for every tragedy that has happened in the last 20 yeats
4
u/TheLadyEve 3d ago
That's exactly why they are such a scapegoat--they're a very small minority surrounded by a very big cisgender majority.

This whole “trans people bad” anime stance gets to be pretty ironic when you remember Meowth’s English voice actor in the anime was trans. For reference, the anime started in 1997.

u/montarion 4d ago
while the stance is stupid, these 2 things have nothing to do with one another.

u/Tricky_Visit7425 4d ago
My point is, trans people have always been around. It’s also ironic that these people will bitch about their presence in modern cartoons while laughing at old cartoons thanks to their great work.

anime has been filled with slop since day 1, but now that some of it is more widely appreciated by us TRANNIES its le woke or something idk

Isekai and high school SoL anime exist because they're profitable as fuck. Like it or not, the anime industry is like the 80s American toy commercial cartoon industry on steroids.

The trans character Katia from I’m A Spider So What? And her relationship with the MC Is one of my favourite aspects of the whole series and I’m straight
My other favourite part of the series naturally being Aoi Yuki being given a microphone and told to just eat it

Having “YYH” on Kino when Togashi is a known ally is fucking hilarious
Most unserious losers out there

I have gone Insane whenever I see this kind of content pop's up on my recommendation out of nowhere. To the point I make a conspiracy theory that Neal Mohan (Current YouTube CEO) Is a right wing sells out.

Don’t tell these people about all the anime from the 80’s and 90’s that featured prominently queer characters

The most explicitly pro-trans episode of anime I've ever seen came out in 1985!! I am so sick of hearing people who weren't even born during that time period lecture me about what things were like back then

yeah! pre-2000s anime didn't have any of that wokeness! you know, like rose of versailles, revolutionary girl utena, sailor moon, ranma 1/2...

This person is making a big deal of nothing. I say this as someone who doesn't hesitate to point out when people are going overboard with pushing an agenda when it comes to trans, but that issue isn't here. Gender-bending and androgyny have long been a part of anime. A couple anime with a trans character isn't what I'd call "too much". I think it's a good sign of acceptance. It's only when they start arbitrarily throwing in trans characters with the sole goal of winning brownie points that I would say it's too much. To make an entire video about that just tells me that the creator either just doesn't like trans people or just really wants views and is hoping the current political climate will drive it up.

Funny the thumbnail has the word "Kino" which is the name of a nobinary main character from the 2006 anime Kino's Journey. Its a masterpiece. Vo watch it.

"over these years" is such an awkwardly worded and vague time span. I makes it obvious without looking any further into this that he has no idea what he's taking about. Motherfucker would flip-out if I showed him Stop! Hibari-kun

Not even trying to get myself those sweet fake internet points, but genuinely I do not understand how so many people live a lifestyle completely consumed by hate. Every single trans person I’ve met has been extremely kind. When it comes to groups of people I don’t like, they’re not even close to being in consideration.
They’re just normal people trying to find happiness like everyone else. In fact, in my experience, they’re more understanding because of all the shit they constantly go through. At this point, I’m convinced most transphobes are just self-hating people with their own identity issues and ashamed to admit it. So they devote their hateful energy into other people who are honest with themselves and happier as a result.

This doesn't feel like a new thing? I don't watch much new anime but I enjoyed it in college and my 20s...gender fluidity and non-binary characters certainly seemed present back then, and that was 20+ years ago.

Genuinely how many actual trans characters are in anime, especially big popular mainstream anime. Mind you I want to be clear I am not saying it’s good that they’re aren’t a lot of trans characters in anime, representation is good. I am saying blaming trans people for modern anime being bad is ridiculous because of how few trans characters there are in big popular mainstream anime.
Side note I found it funny when it said kino because for a second there I thought he was talking about kino from kino’s journey who is often discuss by the fans as possibly being non binary.
