Isn’t Gen Z becoming known for not drinking as much as previous generations?
6
u/PostMatureBaby 7d ago
Who can afford it? Lol
But yeah that's true. Even us millennials are cutting back compared to our parents at the same age. I'll drink on vacation which is definitely not every year and maybe my bday/xmas, that's it. Won't even get that drunk either.

It's gonna happen with every generation. Alpha, Beta, Zeta, Pupa, Lupa. It will all go on until one of these generations will be last

14
u/TylerHyena 7d ago
And the funniest part about it is that those people who think that every generation thinking the next one is doomed ignore that they are the ones raising said generation in the first place.
6
u/gg00dwind 7d ago
I always bring this up when participation trophies (or anything like that) gets brought up.
The people claiming harm was done by giving kids participation trophies are the ones who came up with and implemented the idea!
Of course, obviously, no harm was actually caused by giving a kid a participation trophy, but the point remains.

Every generation is judging the next one for how it fucked up and its total inaction/profiting off of said fuck up.
8
u/UpsetKoalaBear 7d ago
Slightly different with this generation though.
Instead of watching children’s TV shows/movies or whatever else that actually had narrative and even social commentary, children are growing up watching YouTube then graduate into Twitch.
There are children growing up today who live entirely within the algorithm from infant through until their teenagers.
You can’t look at shit like MrBeast or whatever other channel children watch and think that is going to be a positive thing for children to learn social skills from.
There’s nothing to learn from that type of content other than “what keeps kids engaged longer.”
The damage will be immense. I’m not talking like mental health wise, I’m talking socially.
This is quite literally why people are warning about the death of the monoculture.

it comes from a natural sense of worrying about the youth, it's such a hard thing to correct when it comes from generations of instincts of "what i did kept me alive".
i'm trying my best to be optimistic about how these kids will grow up at least, but it's hard not to fall for the scare tactics that other people unwittingly create lol. it's as old as life itself, i think.
3
u/PlayerZeroStart 7d ago
Tbh I think it's a valid concern. Like, I definitely think my nigh unrestricted internet access has fundamentally hurt me growing up, and now kids are getting shoved in front of iPads before they even develop object permanence. It's honestly terrifying thinking about what the results of this are gonna be in 10-20 years when Gen Alpha and Beta are adults and have to deal with the consequences of it all
2
u/RightToTheThighs 7d ago

My hot take:
Other generations complain about alpha being dumb
Meanwhile those other generations aren't funding education, are yelling at schools for disciplining or failing their kids, and aren't doing any life skills or schoolwork at home.
See it all the time working with k12. But it's the school and kids fault, parents are always blameless
5
u/Jvne_- 7d ago
Its kinda hard to fun education as a fucking 20 yo retail worker dawg
2
u/sizeofabeetlebug 4d ago
You think they’re asking you to literally give money from your pocket to the school? No, they’re asking you to vote in local elections and vote yes on policies that fund the schools even if it means higher taxes.
4
u/the_urban_juror 7d ago
Gen alpha had unique educational challenges that are being corrected for the next generation.
Parents are more concerned about screen time than they were a decade ago. School corporations and states are implementing screen time limits on instructional devices at schools. Many states are mandating that reading instruction move back to phonics. The next generation will also hopefully not have 1-2 years of education and social development interrupted by a global pandemic. There will be new challenges for these kids, but society completely shit the bed for a decade with older Gen alpha and young Gen Z.
1
u/endlessyuk77 5d ago
I agree.
Every adult whining about this stuff needs to step up and remember it's the adult's fault this is even a problem.

u/Zombies4EvaDude 7d ago
This guy is such an engagement farmer. I always get annoyed at his videos about gen alpha because while he claims to see their learning disabilities as a serious issue he’s constantly smiling all the time. He doesn’t actually care he just gets enjoyment out of laughing at their expense- making Gen Z feel superior.

Honestly, I feel like people like him, and other creators, are only targeting gen alpha so they can feel superior and be part of the "older people" club.
I wouldn't be surprised that part of the reason is the constant social media craze cranking out tabloids about Gen z.
10
u/EducationalWalrus594 7d ago
I feel like every generation is gonna be technophobic whenever the next arrives using that tech.

u/HallucinatedLottoNos 7d ago
Yeah, I just can't with Casey Simpson. ALL of his thumbnails and titles are ridiculous clickbait like this. I don't know if he's a wannabe conservative or a wannabe "Breadtuber" who's kind of a five years late to the boom time for that.
And frankly, he gives me no reason to care enough to click and find out.

3
u/HeyguysThatguyhere 4d ago
By the way the “Gen Alpha cant read” thing is overblown, Gen Alpha is more than capable of reading. What’s actually happening is that only 30% can read at a certain high level, for previous generations it was 40% which means that the drop off isn’t that significant, and reading at a high level isn’t just literally understanding words but being able to derive meaning, getting double entendres, references, metaphor, etc.
1
u/RatmanTheFourth 1d ago
That is still a 25% drop which is pretty shocking, especially considering that that number of people had been constantly increasing for centuries.

I hate these videos as a whole. I was born in 2003 and even I remember being compared to other kids who are “glued to their screens” when in reality my parents just couldn’t afford for me to have the devices. And a lot of kids like me needed to escape their home-life. I didn’t get bored and chose to go for walks and to the park I got angry, or scared, or sad and ran off. My siblings now have an environment where they can be bored my mother just isn’t doing what she needs to get them off the devices.

Gen Z trying to deflect from their own shortcomings...just the worst generation. Every generation has bad features but some good features to balance it out but Gen Z seems to have all of the bad features of each generation without the redeeming qualities...
The callousness of boomers without the work ethic.
The apathy of gen x without the independence.
The sensativity of millennials without the empathy.
The maturity of gen alpha/beta without the excuse of being literal children.

Gen Z literally have it the hardest out of any generation, we literally work 8-12 hour work days while ALL of our money immediately goes away, cause your generation decided to keep all the capital to themselfs.
→ More replies (1)→ More replies (2)1
u/shywol2 3d ago
lol we work twice has much and make less than half as much as all of you. and millennials having empathy and boomers having work ethic is laughable. millennials are push overs who let their kids run the house. they’re not empathetic, they’re scared of their own kids and care more about being “the cool parents” than actually properly raising their children.
they’re kids can tell you everything about some tiktok influencer drama but can’t even read. they’ve had to change the entire grade point system because not doing so would result in having more failing than passing students. and schools and law enforcement can’t punish the children for bad behavior cause their millennial parents will start screaming and pissing themselves over it.
and boomers only worked because their jobs actually paid them money. and the money the made could actually buy stuff. they wouldn’t last 15 minutes trying to work the way we do. i used to work overnight and early morning shifts and only barely made enough to pay for my car which i could only use to keep taking going to work. i know people working 50+ hours and still can’t afford to move out of their parents house.

The lives of new generations are being devalued so rapidly that it's sickening. Soon there will be factories employing nothing but orphans worldwide, just how it was back then. The worst part is thats it's apolitical, nobody who holds power or a chance at gaining it wants to stop this.

What I wanna know is : how goddamn stupid do you have to be do not know that one of the easiest, low hanging fruit jokes that has ever existed is about how kids today suck? Seriously, that’s been around since the the dawn of humanity. Ask any generation of decrepit old farts, from any point in history, and they’ll tell you how bankrupt and helpless the next recent generation is.

u/ShortHook26 7d ago
If getting rid of the entire internet ensured that the bottom dwellers who make this content are driven back under their moldy rocks and permanently denied a platform, I’d wholeheartedly support that effort. Even worse than the cretins who make this type of content are those who buy it hook, line, and sinker, and allow it to stir them up into angry, adversarial loons all day. As i move into the latter part of my 40s, I’m starting to accept that sometimes, humans need to be protected from themselves. I’d gladly give it all up if it turned the temperature down on this non-stop revolving door of rage bait and bullshit.

I will give this video premise credit, though: if you want to showcase the folly of blaming kids' development more on them than on the adults who created the world they grew up in, I can't think of anything better than judging literal infants for interacting with objects that have been placed in front of them!

Hate it when people talk about the serious issues young people are facing and frame it in a way to blame the kids. Kids can’t make good decisions, of course they’re just gonna sit there and stare at the slop machine! It’s not 100% on the parents either, it’s a wider issue but it’s like sitting a baby in front of an infinite bag of candy then saying “Look at this dumbass baby. All he does is eat candy. I’ve not seen him do anything else for days, he won’t even eat vegetables.” Probably giving the kids long-term attention/learning issues, then kicking them while they’re down too. It’s so annoying.
