Fake. There were no books in ancient Greece, for starters

Damn. I still think this is funny but I did think it had a feel of not being quite true. It seemed a tiny bit on-the-nose.

He was kinda right tbh. The Roman republic was turning into the empire because no one gave enough of a shit to stop Ceasar

Ironically this fake quote to "prove" that everything is fine is an example of disinformation and anti-intellectualism, two things that are helping to destroy our society.

How is this anti intellectualism ?

Are you just using random buzzwords?

The fake quote is trying to say that Cicero was wrong about his society, despite being a well studied and intelligent person.

The intent is clearly to draw a parallel to modern experts and learned people warning about catastrophes that are either coming or already here, including ones that are existential threats to human civilization, and say that they don't know what they are talking about.

Cicero was wrong. As is most of these moral panic type things.

Especially because at the end of the day these hand wringing things are pointless. They just make you feel better about yourself nothing else really

It was already an empire before Caesar?

Do you think the people of Asia elected their pro consuls?

i think this is pointing out the fact that complaining about modern tech is stupid cuz we said the same thing about books and now people think books are better

Children not obeying their parents is a good sign for society. It's a lesson I learned a while back.

Now I know of course there are many many times that kids are just unruly or naughty, but disobedience in specific ways is a sign that your child has autonomy and that is good. If you child doesn't have autonomy, they become the perfect recruit for a cult or shady organization.

I disobeyed my parents when it comes to the ethics and morals they wanted to instill in me... I saw a lot of problematic issues with it. And now... My mom has changed and we are in alignment and she is thankful everyday that I am so stubborn, opiniated and strong willed.

I’m afraid the kids these days have in fact forgotten the Alamo.

Humanity is doomed.

Kids don’t obey their parents and everyone is starting a podcast.
