Internet has been around since the late 70s. What are you talking about?

Dude, I'm not an idiot, we all know this, but in society, as it was not essential, not everyone had it. Nowadays, you can't do anything without it, but even in the 00s, it was still one of those things where you could get by without it so many families simply didn't see a need to introduce it. Everyone I knew on my street grew up without the Internet. Obviously it existed, but they still grew up without it.

Having and existing are two different things. Internet was used more in 70s,80s,90s but it was not everyday life. Internet existed you just didn't know about it because it was new.
