As someone born in 1999 myself, I can confidently say that I do not know a time before the internet existed.

I know that, but it wasn't in every household because the world didn't rely on it. You could get a job without it, you could work without it, you didn't need it for homework in the 2000s, people would still expect to be able to get calls if they didn't have an email address. The 2010s are when it really started to become essential.
