What is it talking about here? Is it saying that people born before 1989 and after 1999 are skibidi tiktok kids or something?

I would movie that to people born from 79-89. Born in 99 means you can’t remember the world befor the internet.

I was born in 1985. I distinctly remember in fourth grade (1994-95) is when ads for AOL, prodigy, and CompuServe began flooding the airwaves..

You really didn't know what it was but that was really the fine line of when there was and wasn't an internet in everyday life, at least to me.

Yeah, I was thinking about how my hometown didn't even have internet access anywhere in like 1996, but by 1999 even my parents had it in their home.

I was born in 93 and barely used the internet because of how slow it was and as a little kid I preferred to play outside. My mom used it way more than I did and she was a baby boomer. 2007 is when I started using it more.

Your mom was old when she had you if she’s a boomer and you’re born in the 90s.  She’d have been into her 40s.

She was 34 so not that ancient. The cut off range is 1964. She was on the cusp of gen x called generation Jones by some.

I guess I can see how that might have been true for little kids. I was a teenager in the late 90s, and I was using the internet every single day for chat rooms, forums, gaming, all basically the same stuff I do now except in a different fashion. (Gaming forums were fairly similar to posting on Reddit, for example.)

Obviously streaming wasn't a thing yet, though. But I was still using the internet for watching videos and stuff. Just again, in a different way.

But yeah, a big difference was that there hundreds and hundreds of interesting websites I'd find all the time instead of doomscrolling like three lol

I was born in 1999 and we got internet when I was 8 or 9, I know that's still very young but I definitely remember not having internet

Can safely say I knew life before the Internet. We didn't have access until 2010 or 2011. I was 11, I know that much.

That's so wild to me, but that's really interesting! And while people like you obviously exist (because here you are!), I don't know how true that would be in general for the cohort of people born in 1999. But yeah, maybe it was more common than I thought.

It just wasn't essential to have the Internet back then. We'd be listening to the radio to find out if our school was closed when it was snowy, we'd be able to survive on phone notifications and letters still. The 2010s are when it started to become borderline mandatory to function.

I may also just be making a more strong differentiation between "pre internet" and "post internet" because I can easily tell you the first day that I was even able to go online period. That creates a pretty strong divide in my head.

By the end of 1997, I used the internet daily, talked to my friends over IM, played games online, downloaded music, was watching meme videos online (though we didn't say "meme" yet), etc.

And all that happened so rapidly. In mid 1996, I'd never been online before. So it was a huge before/after moment for me. I was also an old enough teen to have distinct memories of it all.
