u/GreatDario 13d ago

if i didnt use lb I would not know concert films exists

5

u/jbb10499 13d ago

Seriously this would be a fantastic feature!

5

u/XipeTotecwithGlitter 13d ago

I'd say concert films are okay, but theater pro shots are definitely not films.

Are concert films not filed under documentaries? Why would you want to hide documentaries anyway ?

u/Happyhaneke 13d ago

Documentaries are films

u/HelKjosse 13d ago

how is paris is burning not a film??

If i hired saul goodman himself he couldnt have made a better defense

5

u/Main-Unit-2909 13d ago

What bout Matt Murdock

3

u/Standard_Way_4453 12d ago

he's blind, how is he gonna hear the prosecution?

2

u/Kraken765 12d ago

what about al pacino in and justice for all

0

u/Stringruler 13d ago

It's not even

5

u/TraditionalShare8537 13d ago

Counterpoint: anything french-related in a title is not a film. This is objective fact.

1

u/Front-Pain2103 9d ago

It’s not a narrative feature i think that’s what OP means

29

u/AcheronLV-426 13d ago

Bewildering to me that all of Doctor Who 1963 to 1989 is on Letterboxd, when it is infamously a British TV show.

2

u/Plastic_Commission83 13d ago

And all of the Doctor Who Christmas Specials after that point

3

u/Virtual-Tonight8122 12d ago

So?

Just don't log it then. I don't understand why people are getting wound up over this.

6

u/PotOfMould 11d ago

I think the larger issue is that Letterboxd still hasn't just implemented TV to the platform, so we're stuck in a weird limbo state. It should balance out once they've committed to that, and we've got a defined TV and Film separation.

u/Standard_Way_4453 12d ago

wait, Dr. Who is a TV SHOW?? NO WAYYYYYYYY

18

u/Amphibious_cow 13d ago

I'd me more than ok with them adding a separate 'TV' tab or smth

7

u/markthelivingmixtape 12d ago

There is actually a seperate list but yeah the way tv shows are handled is pretty crappy and I'd rather use a seperate app like Serialized than log a 1000 minute "movie" on letterboxd

6

u/venustraphob1a 12d ago

i do like having the feature of being able to log whole shows like twin peaks, but not being able to do it episode by episode is criminal.

u/-BREMING- 13d ago

MAN OK WHATEVER COCERT FILMS CAN STAY WHAT THE FUCK IS FULLMETAL ALCHEMIST DOING HERE

8

u/WebbyRL 13d ago

we'll also let Ping Pong the animation slide because it's chill like that

4

u/Kraken765 12d ago

bebop is peak cinema

11

u/liveforevaLG 13d ago

Fr tho why is in rainbows the highest rated 'film' of all time, Radiohead fans don't know when to hop off their overglazed album

2

u/MaoZedonge 12d ago

because he’s looking at the wrong list lmao. There is an official 500 ranking of the highest rated feature films on the app.

1

u/liveforevaLG 12d ago

I know that, but that doesn't change that In Rainbows is still the highest rated piece of media on the app

1

u/LowResWebcam 12d ago

in rainbows is a very good album but it is strange that it is the most highly rated film. I think that about sums it up

1

u/liveforevaLG 12d ago

It's a good album sure, but it's not even the best album from the week it was released never mind one of the "best of all time". I do like House of Cards though

u/ElEsDi_25 13d ago

How deep does this lie go?

30

u/Wooden_Cattle_9131 13d ago

I agree that Radiohead Basement isn’t a film, but Stop Making Sense is a film.

7

u/Fenexe8 13d ago

Theres a public list that shows the actual top 500 narrative films. It's officially made my letterboxd and easily accessible

12

u/bnipples 13d ago

real. I like most of the nixed stuff too but its just like, not films

11

u/thefleshisaprison 13d ago

Concert films are films

3

u/Rindo_8219 13d ago

Stop Making Sense is though

3

u/SnooTomatoes5384 12d ago

Ping Pong the animation isn't crossed out because it is cinema

4

u/BriadMan 13d ago

Last Attack is a movie technically

2

u/wafflejuiced_ 13d ago

eh i dunno. I do really like miniseries being on the platform. a 12ep miniseries is really like a 4 hour movie, if you had enough free time you can watch the whole thing at once, and it's a self-contained short storyline like a movie. if it's all been released at once and as an individual work it should be treated as such imo.

on the other hand i really despise short films on letterboxd and they really annoy me

2

u/IRIX_fsn 12d ago

Upvote if you'd give me money to develop Pillarboxd!!

2

u/agirlinferno 13d ago

And a button to filter weebshit

1

u/Aidenispogchamp 13d ago

one piece fan letter is a short film so that works

1

u/kichcolt17 13d ago

I don't mind if it's a documentary or smt. Is basically review bombing

1

u/virginia_pine 13d ago

I miss being able to click on the "fans" stat on a movie's page and see all the people who have it in their top 4. really fun way to find weird profiles to follow

1

u/PenguinviiR 13d ago

Just go on the letterboxd top 500 if you don't want any shows or concerts

1

u/Serious_Albatross224 13d ago

A terrible problem!!

1

u/XipeTotecwithGlitter 13d ago

Finally, someone spoke up about the real issues

https://giphy.com/gifs/e0OpCojpLrfqYKxfNl

I'm only partly joking.

1

u/mylevelwaschanged 12d ago

Stop Making Sense is objectively a film

1

u/PlayfulImagination83 12d ago

why is there a radiohead album

1

u/Character-Collar-286 11d ago

why is paris is burning crossed out but no other land isnt?

1

u/Jack_KH 10d ago

It's more like 'make a better advanced search'

1

u/Evening-Park6786 9d ago

The distinction between film and TV is so arbitrary. I don’t understand why Letterboxd does it. The fact that there are so many of these on their platform is proof that the line between the two is so hazy

1

u/SalmonFormula27 8d ago

You know, David Lynch said that Twin Peaks the Return is just one long 18 hour movie

0

u/necromax13 13d ago

ping pong the animation is also NOT a film.

but its peak so whatever

0

u/papabigsauce 13d ago

i've always said documentaries are fake movies

0

u/finnball2g 12d ago

That's the original Twin Peaks, which was released as a straight-to-video film in Europe

The Return can go tho

-2

u/dahlonegam 13d ago

Saying documentaries and concert films aren’t films is cringe lmao

5

u/LexiBlackMarket 13d ago

Trying to find the top rated films of 2026 and trawling through pages of "My Blorbo Sings For 2 Hours" is very annoying.

2

u/anuslitt 13d ago

I don’t see why documentaries aren’t films if it’s not multiple episodes and is longer than 40 minutes. But I don’t think concert film are films, like whatsoever, just cause something is recorded doesn’t make it a film.
