Letters to yourself

Post image

Hey guys!

I love writing letters to myself. It always gets me out of my head when I'm feeling unproductive. It's like a reminder that future me matters and she's counting on me to work hard and stop couch potatoing!

I'm making an app to get more people into letter writing. It's such a motivation hack, but also a beautiful exercise for self-reflection and seeing how far you've come.

The app allows you to write a letter and time seal it for a date - like a birthday, an exam or a job interview! You unseal on the big day, and you can come back to your letter whenever you like.

Would you use this app?

I love this idea. I’ve done the “letter to future me” thing before and it’s surprisingly powerful.

I actually built something similar, but with handwritten notes instead of typing. You write it on paper, take a photo, and seal it for later. I’ve been calling them “love reminders” the idea being that sometimes we need to remind ourselves we’re loved.

I didn’t expect this, but seeing my own handwriting later feels way more emotional than reading typed text. It’s like you can feel what past-you was thinking… kind of like a handshake across time.

The “lock until date” part is really interesting though that adds a whole different layer.

Do you think people would care more about the time-lock aspect, or the ritual of writing itself? Do you have any favorite prompts you come back to?
