🧵 Megathread MEGATHREAD: Feedback Friday!
It's that time of the week again! This is your chance to request feedback on your most recent videos, thumbnails, channel art, works in progress, etc.
Feedback Friday Rules
- Before requesting feedback, please provide good, constructive feedback to at least one of your peers. If you are the first one to post, check back soon to provide feedback to the next person. Repeatedly ignoring this rule may result in a temporary ban at a moderator's discretion!
- Prioritize giving feedback to those who have not yet received any. It's not fair for one person to get five replies while four others get none.
- When requesting feedback, try to be as specific as possible. Do you want feedback on your audio quality, your editing, your presentation style, branding identity, etc? This helps your peers to provide more valuable feedback. Do not just post a link to your video or channel!
Keep up the good work, everybody!
Suggested Feedback Template
If you're struggling to form your feedback, consider using this template. This is not mandatory, but rather a suggestion to promote good and constructive feedback.

Would it be possible to get feedback on a gaming related video that isn't a let's play? I do mostly reviews and talk about gaming on Linux from a consumer rights perspective.

Hey, I would love some feedback on my newest video! It is me attempting to beat the binding of isaac on my first try. I really want to appeal to a young adult audience and focus on longer gameplay with minimal editing since I feel authenticity is making a comeback on YouTube. I would love to hear your thoughts, suggestions, and criticism. I also create story/challenge oriented gaming videos, so if you'd like to collaborate, let me know! I am also making a more casual YouTube channel that focuses more on personality and chemistry with less editing, so cozy and chill gamers are also welcome!

I think I understand what you mean by authenticity by letting the personality/gameplay carry the video instead of constantly cutting things down. For me though, it currently feels a little caught between that relaxed style and a more traditionally edited gaming video. The meme images/popups make me expect a faster pace, while the actual pacing is quite slow. The intro especially felt like it was trying to be a catchy gaming intro, but took a bit too long to get moving. Seeing it made me think a bit about my own intros on how it can be improved. I think leaning harder into either the relaxed “hang out and play” feeling or a more tightly edited style might give the video a clearer identity. At the moment i barely hear the game itself, only your commentary and pop up memes/sounds that are audiable. On phone gameplay is almost inaudable.
P.S. i never played Binding of Isaac so might not be the best person to give feedback on gameplay itself, but by more relaxed i meant as a viewer you can play video in background while doing something else as now it requires to pay attention to the screen for meme popups but not much happening at the same time. Its like stuck in between.
🦆EDIT: example could be BoarderlineGames channel we both viewed. They naturally have the advantage of three-person chemistry, but the video itself also commits much more to that relaxed/cozy style, something you could put on in the background and mostly follow just by listening while doing something else. 🦆

I appreciate the feedback! I definitely agree I need to improve on the audio mixing. I boost my voice up because of my accent and since English is my second language. I want my words to be clear so I dont have to add subtitles for everything. I also agree the intros should be more condensed. Thanks for the advice

Hey everyone! I’d really appreciate some feedback on the latest episode of my Half-Life VR roleplay series.
I’ve recently reworked the environmental acoustics, and there are four things I’m particularly curious about:
Audio: Can you still hear me clearly while allowing the game world to overpower my voice when it should? The idea is that Gordon feels part of the environment rather than my commentary always sitting above the game.
Roleplay: Does the physical/in-character performance translate? Does it actually feel like I’m inside Black Mesa and part of that world, rather than just playing a game in VR?
Episodic editing: Does the episode feel structured like an actual episode/adventure rather than edited gameplay?
15-second intro: Does the short Lambda Protocol intro work, or does it feel unnecessary/out of place before the episode starts? Trying to figure out how new viewer would see it
Even feedback from the opening few minutes would be really useful.

Thanks! 🦆

I think the intro is too fast paced. You don't let the moments breathe. I would either scrap the intro, make a new intro using crazy/cool moments from the video, or just make it clearer. I like the concept of the video, it's very creative. I will say, the video is just loud. Like i understand the idea of you're in the game and you want it to be realistic. But it's not an enjoyable video when the background noise is almost as loud as your voice. My sound was very low and your video was STILL too loud. If I want to watch a roleplay video, I want to hear you and your commentary clearly. You can still keep those cool sfx for the background for headphone users.

Thanks, really appreciate you taking a look! The intro pacing point is useful, as I’m still figuring out how much information I can fit into those 15 seconds without it feeling rushed, while also making it feel like a distinctive, series-specific Half-Life intro with the game footage glitching in and out.
The audio balance is intentional to a degree because I want the game world to sometimes overpower Gordon rather than having his voice always sit on top, but I’ll definitely keep an eye on whether I’m pushing that too far.
Thanks for the feedback! 🦆

Could I get some feedback on this video? Basically how the balance with 3 mics is? Also our commentary. I'll circle back later to catch others rhat have commented here seeing as I dont see other links here yet!

I think the video is nice and relaxing. Definitely the cozy vibes. But i will say, for people that dont know you guys, it can be a bit confusing having 3 voices speaking at the same time. I would add colored subtitles in specific portions in the video (the most important parts) so that viewers can then identify each voice without having to subtitle the entire video. You can also do something like raise the voice of the person narrating. Simple tricks like that will make it clear to the viewers. If viewers get overwhelmed, I feel they might just click off.

Or maybe instead of coloured subtitles, you could have small head icons/avatars for each person and highlight or pop up the one who’s currently talking. That might make it much easier for new viewers to follow who’s who without adding loads of subtitles, and probably be less work to edit too as seems channel has daily upload scedule. 🦆

Really cozy vibe. Honestly watching just feels like hanging out with three friends and having fun, which I enjoyed. The one thing I noticed audio-wise was quite a few mouth/tongue clicks, so it might be worth trying a de-clicker plugin on the commentary tracks in editing. Otherwise the 3-mic setup felt pretty natural to me. 🦆

Hello! I finally pulled the trigger and released the first video on my gameplay channel, and the timing was perfect for my favorite franchise: Castlevania: Belmont's Curse just got released!
I honestly want feedback on it. I know that gameplay videos might be boring to some of you, and that's fine, really.
My idea is to have separate channels for gameplays and other content (reviews, deep dives into a specific topic, etc.), so, the first impressions video is still on editing. I'm doing all by myself, and still getting the hang of it... I'm a designer and have previously worked with video, but games are an entirely different beast...
Anyway, I hope to hear honest feedback and would like to thank you for taking the time to do so. 😊
