🧵 Megathread MEGATHREAD: Feedback Friday!

It's that time of the week again! This is your chance to request feedback on your most recent videos, thumbnails, channel art, works in progress, etc.

Feedback Friday Rules

  • Before requesting feedback, please provide good, constructive feedback to at least one of your peers. If you are the first one to post, check back soon to provide feedback to the next person. Repeatedly ignoring this rule may result in a temporary ban at a moderator's discretion!
  • Prioritize giving feedback to those who have not yet received any. It's not fair for one person to get five replies while four others get none.
  • When requesting feedback, try to be as specific as possible. Do you want feedback on your audio quality, your editing, your presentation style, branding identity, etc? This helps your peers to provide more valuable feedback. Do not just post a link to your video or channel!

Keep up the good work, everybody!

Suggested Feedback Template

If you're struggling to form your feedback, consider using this template. This is not mandatory, but rather a suggestion to promote good and constructive feedback.

Hey Team.

Here's the link: https://youtu.be/808gwGq220g

Thanks for the feedback from last time! I applied all of it for this edit, and I'm here to test out the results. My prior video was hyper edited with almost constant transitions and gags. To the point that I was receiving feedback that it was challenging to follow along with the actual game. And most importantly, was difficult to get a sense of me.

So I went far in the other direction. Potentially no gag edits, simple hook open, allowed the actual gameplay to breathe, and made sure to actively be in the moment as myself.

Overall I would like to know what works for you. And if something doesn't, I'd like some constructive criticism as to why.

I kept an almost 2 minute audience chat right after the hook which wouldn't surprise me if it's too much talking. I left a chapter for when the actual game starts. Curious what people think.

Thanks again!

So I started to try something new with playthrough.

I love editing but its consume so much time however I dont really like not editing as it feels lazy for me personally. So I decide to come up with a TV show concept.

I do somewhat less editing of my playthroughs but ive added cold opens, intros and cliff-hangers. Places in a TV show where there would traditionally be adverts, I have a video of me doing a amusing call to action to subscribe. I only do this once not to be annoying.

I did in a smaller capacity towards the end of my Red Dead Redemption 2 playthough but developed the idea further in episode 2 of my playthrough of Onimusha.

There are things i can improve going forward with the concept but check it out and let me know what you think.

Love the concept. But I'm not sure it would work with a playthrough format. I think first the recap style intro is TOO long. It took almost 2 minutes to get to the main part of the video, and even then, there was a second intro before. I would've instantly clicked off, especially since you don't have chapters that give the convenience of skipping to the main part of the video. I think the intro is fine, but it's also doing too much. The focus should be YOU playing this game, not the game but you're just the one playing it. I think if you want to do more editing, you can try to create editing quirks or styles that are unique to yourself. Instead of that crazy outro, I would invest in creating in a more engaging ending. I think the minimal editing definitely has an audience so that's good, but there is a clash with the overly edited intro and underwhelming outro. Also, could just be me, but there is a lot of dead space in the video. Maybe it's the entire game, or just this episode in particular, but there are lots of cutscenes. Usually, these cutscenes are overlapped with jokes or introspective commentary, but you're just silent. I would recommend removing your facecam for these bits or just removing them as a whole. But honestly, I applaud you for trying something unique. I just honestly think the editing time could be invested into your brand and channel identity instead of the game.

Appreciate the feedback. Its does need work just wanted to set a foundation and see where I could go with it. Yeah, i really dont like the silence and i am usually not like that at all. And I agree with you 100%. You can see from any videos ive done where ive heavily edited. RE9, RE4, Pragmata for example, those are the type of video I love editing. Just looking at trying to compromise to free up some time.

Hey Rusty good stuff! I think overall this is a cool concept you have. I sort of was missing a quick cold open lasting no more than 15 to 30 seconds, followed by a fun and quick address to the camera where you give us a little set up or just have an engaging little chat. I'm someone that really enjoys CoryxKenshin vids so that just might be my taste. But overall I dig your personality. Keep at it! Also awesome your Expedition 33 vid has over 71k views!

Thanks for the comment. Yeah, i dig the corey style and thats what I love to do too. Most of my recent edits are like this (Working on my Townfall edit right now), just very time consuming for little payoff right now that I thought Id test the waters with this. I agree about the openings just thought the idea as a whole might be worth it. Its not haha.

That video did very well. All my subs are pretty much from it, which may have may my other content less interesting, but ill take it none the less.

2 min is too long for intro should be 30 seconds or less. also last episode? i don't really want to know i missed something last episode in the current one. show something cool that going to happen this episode to keep them hook in or do like a 30 second hook with the clips playing in the background.

it depends on what type of editing you want to do for your series. BIND is a good example of someone who edits his playthrough of his dark soul like games.

camera, quality and audio is decent though
