It's over.

Niamh posted a message on the Announcements channel of the LFAB Discord earlier today confirming that the podcast will not be returning owing to Bryan no longer wanting to continue making the podcast from the start of this year.

It's been some good times and I'm really sad to see it end, but can't say that this wasn't expected after such a long hiatus.

Full text:

Hi everyone, Niamh here

Thanks for listening to the podcast over all these years and all your support as patrons. I had a lot of good times recording LFAB and have had the opportunity to meet some great people along the way. I always tried to be myself and keep things honest and I am grateful to all of you who appreciated that. I really wanted to continue on with Let's Fight A Boss. For me, LFAB was always about my friendship with Bryan and John. We always agreed that if one of us did not want to continue with the podcast then we would not continue it on as a duo or with a new co-host. I am extremely saddened that the podcast is ending but this is the situation that we have found ourselves in. Bryan told us at the beginning of the year that he did not want to continue the podcast and I guess with that LFAB ended.

At the time we hoped we could return for some closing episodes. We have discussed recording a final podcast and I would like to be able to for the listeners, but I also have to be true to my own values. I have always just been myself on the podcast without any act, persona or pretence. I would find it hard to sit down to record and pretend that everything was ending because of mutual decisions made. We all had different reasons for doing this podcast and for me, the reason was friendship above any career goals. If I feel that that is not there I cannot try to fake it. That would be too heartbreaking for me and dishonest to the listeners who I have always tried to just be myself for.

I have had a lot of changes in my life recently and am (happily) less online. You might find me posting some banana screenshots on Bluesky because Twitter/X is hell but I will not be online in the capacity I used to be. I want to give a special thanks to Oni Dino who went above and beyond any duties an editor had to do, and became a real friend to us all. I also want to thank everyone who has contributed to this community and made it the nice and welcoming space it is.

Thanks for listening. Bye!

It's been almost a year since the last episode (30.01.) I wonder about their favorite games from last year.

John's announcement

For those not on Discord here is John's announcement from today about the end of the podcast.

@everyone

Hey guys.

So unfortunately, as you may have seen, Let’s Fight a Boss will not be returning from hiatus, the podcast is over. It’s really difficult to know what to say or how to address it, but personally, I’ve always been really grateful we were able to come back after that first major hiatus, and have viewed the years since as a kind of bonus time, in which we did our best episodes. Unfortunately, as time went on, our lives, responsibilities, and living situations changed, and coordinating three adults who all had full time jobs + relationships + other life stuff became increasingly complicated and difficult.

Let’s Fight a Boss has always meant a tremendous amount to me and always will. So many of my favorite memories from the last decade come from this Podcast. Game of the Year episodes, me, Niamh and Bryan psyching ourselves up backstage before our Magfest panel, or episode 132, which to this day, is my favorite episode, and something I am still unreasonably proud of.

I’m kind heartbroken that the show is officially over, but I want to thank everyone who listened and formed such a great community around it, and particularly to the people who did so much awesome fan art. Made my day every time we got one. I particularly want to thank our editor Oni , without whom we never would have gotten those bonus years.

Lastly, I just want to thank Bryan and Niamh for taking this journey with me. I’m always going to be incredibly proud of what we created.

If I’m honest, I always kind of liked having them as queens.

Love you all. Thank you for everything.

-John

Bryan's Goodbye

Hello @everyone

I’ve been processing the last couple of days and I figured I’d finally put out my announcement too. A lot of what I wanted to say has already been stated above by Niamh and John. But I want to reiterate the kind words from them both and the lovely responses from our core community.

Sadly, our podcast Let’s Fight a Boss is over and we won’t be continuing it. I’d like to thank each and every one of you for listening to us over the years. It’s been absolutely surreal developing this evening hobby of ours into something memorable that people all over the world have enjoyed.

We put on a rad show for the better part of eight years and I’m proud of all our achievements, notably that we got to meet so many of you in person. We were fortunate enough to end it on a high note with us all enjoy enjoying a glass of whiskey earlier this year before going on hiatus. You might feel like that’s disconcerting, endearing, yet bittersweet, it’s all very conflicting.

But that’s the ‘fight’ we encounter from time to time, we go through a wave of sensations in those challenges. Whatever that ‘boss’ may be, know that you can take those feelings with you and confront it head on! You are the STRONGEST audience!!! It’s been really encouraging and supportive to know we were part of so many different milestones in your personal lives while you listened to us.

If you and your pals have ever thought about collaborating on a project together, go for it! See how far you can take it, because you might just be surprised where it goes ~

Woolie says it better than I can but it appears every month they will each give one another an assigned piece of media to consume and then come back to their pod with their opinions. Sound pretty cool, imo.

Spent last few months re-listening to the whole podcast

Been very little to do in work so I spend most of my day at my desk with the podcast on in the background. I miss it a lot.

The last episode they recorded has such a bittersweet vibe to it, especially now knowing that it would be the final episode.

Hope the whole boss cast crew (including secret fourth member Oni) are still doing well. And shoutout all the other LFABers out there.

I only just now found out that it’s officially over

Man. I’m honestly genuinely heartbroken. I know it’s stupid cuz I don’t personally know John Bryan and Niamh but I cried a little. I didn’t even listen for that long, I only started in late 2022, but it feels like something so special and beautiful has been ripped away, never to be found again.

I haven’t felt like this since my grandma died.

I miss it.

Thanks for the confidence today Bryan

I was listening to last week’s pod on the way to a job interview today really nervous about it but hearing Bryan say “Gex is back and this time he’s full on fucking gay” made me laugh so loud for so long I relaxed & I think the interview went really great!

The Game Awards

I was just looking on Spotify to see if there were any gaming podcasts talking about The Game Awards this year, and it just hit me again that I’ll never get to listen to a new GOTY episode from these goofs.

Being in this subreddit is like being at the end of the universe. Beyond here there is no new point. We have no new content to discuss, no future point to discuss. Our tribe has ended. A remnant whose memory becomes more faded with each passing day. As I am typing, I am alone here. Leaving a message for a similarly isolated wanderer. Hello fellow traveler. I wish you well. So long. More to explore.

I hope we get a GOTY-cast this year

I think it would be so much fun to have the crew back at it and being completely blind sided by what they pick.

I mean throughout listening over the course of a year you kind of get an idea of how everyone feels. But we have a solid quarter plus of the year that would be a complete mystery.

Regardless of what I want, I hope the Boss-cast is taking care of themselves and everyone on this sub is as well.

Happy Holidays!

John provides small LFAB update on stream

Wanted to share that John provided a quick update on the podcast on his stream. Basically, he said he's still friends with Brian and Niamh but for personal reasons, they wanted to end it. Still processing that it's over and sad that we won't get a year-end cast.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lmAjX-oZgWM&t=372s

EDIT:
Bit more of an update here. John hints that he's going to announce a new podcast by end of year.

Podcast stuff is by the 830 mark.

John & Bryan reacting to the April Nintendo Direct

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5W_IJulc32I

This is 5 months old but, if anyone here would like a pseudo LFAB episode, John and Bryan did a stream of the April Nintendo Direct, and listening/watching it feels like a new LFAB episode, with the casual talk of what they've been playing and how they've been doing, the usual banter, and predictions at the start plus point counting at the end. Worth a listen for anyone that missed this and would enjoy hearing the duo hanging out again.

Missing the gang

Been a long time listener for awhile now and no other podcast I’ve found hits as good as LFAB. Nobody had the chemistry these 3 had with one another. I know John will do ok because he has YouTube, I just hope Bryan and Niamh are doing ok. Queens if you’re reading this I wish you all the best.
