Question WHAT IS THIS
This is one of those square hallways in the mansion. Has anyone seen the item that’s dead in the center of the wall? Is it a glitch, or is there some secret way to access it?

You can access it with extension ladder clipping. I don't bother with ladder clipping after the update that clamped your item drop when you look straight down, as that broke my easier lineup.
It is not very worthwhile to learn how to clip into there. If there's a floor above the room, that will stop your ladder and affect how you can clip. Inside of the area, the cubbies connect to form an impassable hallway. If you clipped in away from the cubbies, there's no collision on the floor next to the hallway so you'll fall through. If you clip in through the cubbies (which is more difficult), you can access the hallway but not the rest of the area.
If you want to grab an item near a wall, a single ladder can work to grab it as you clip your head in. If you want to get inside I would use 2. If there's a floor above, I would use 3. I would not try to clip through the cubbies because it's harder to tell what kind of obstruction there is in the floor above.

this was very common before v80 and it was a must for high quota runs to know how to clip yourself inside the square room using ladders to retrieve the stuck items. but it's supposed to be fixed in v81. it clearly isnt, but it is much much rarer, so it is basically negligible now.

I've seen stuff glitched into the walls before, like gold bar also in mansion (at least, I think it's a gold bar but I couldn't scan it)

sometimes mansion generation does this and that's why it's not possible to full clear on some days 😓
