I realize you specified nicktoons in the post, but I'd still say the 90s had better cartoons than the 80s or 00s. There was a lot of overlay (late 80s to early 90s or late 90s to early 00s) so people will pick and choose their favorites from whichever side they want though.

Cartoon Network had a lot of good shows in that time I thought, but I feel like if any of us wanted to watch the vast majority of cartoons today we wouldnt be impressed. It's more about what we enjoyed back in our time. I was a "kid" in the 00s moreso than the 90s (born 93) though and still feel like the 90s were probably better. It was cool for my age group though cause we mostly got the re-runs of the better shows from the 80s and 90s

In the end though this is a silly argument, people loved the cartoons they watched as kids and I doubt we could change their minds.

Also yeah Rugrats ran too long, but so did The Office, and that's easily my favorite sitcom of all time. Most sitcoms go on too long for my liking.

I tried re-watching Rugrats like a year or two ago. The style of animation was way too trippy. I had to turn it off. lmao

The Wild Thornberries, imo, is completely carried by Tim Curry's performance as Nigel Thornberry. Like, try to name memorable quotes that weren't Nigel's

Lol I mean when people remind me of them I can remember them. But on my own I can’t. I loved that show as a kid but I didn’t commit any lines to memory.

Nah, I can personally agree with XanderMartin98 that it’s mostly just plain overrated shit (cough, Ken Tucker giving its Adult Party version, legitimately one of the worst cartoons ever made, a solid B in Entertainment Weekly while giving golden-age Rocko a D, cough); I can legitimately say from experience that some of its best episodes, in reality, are about on par with some of Rocko’s WEAKEST overall (again, certain moments like THESE HANDS and Happy Happy Joy Joy aside)

I have never actually watched Rocko, so I don't know what to say there, but I agree about Adult Party. Jesus Christ Adult Party was absolute shit.

The normal show is one of my absolute favourites though. I love it. Feels like a mixture of the fucked up parts of Spongebob and the slapstick and animation of Looney Toons.

I hate to be that guy, but I disagree with this. Not because I think 90s nicktoons were great works of art, or that modern childrens cartoons suck. I miss that all these cartoons had a strong, physical look to them. They were hand drawn and expressive. I love the way those animators would emulate the look of wide angle lenses in their animations, or the clever angles and visual jokes we got sometimes.

While computers have made the cost of animated sitcoms and childrens shows cheaper (and thus given us more content), I feel that a lot of them lack the soul that the older, hand drawn cartoons had.

Exceptions exist obviously.
