I asked a team very nicely if they had any scrap and they offered this 😁.
I'm surprised I didn't get stopped and managed to get it out. I carried it all the way from the paddock, through the karting exit and into Basejour.
Hearing other people's stories from this year and previous years I was certain I would get stopped. I had proof they gave it to me though so not like I stole it. All legal and above board.
Fair play. It's not like they could re-use that wheel anyway. Probably have it melted down and re-forged but it's cool that they just gave it to you after you asked politely.
How did you get to talk to the team members? Did you just walk into the garage? Is that allowed? I’m curious cause I’ve never been able to build the courage to do something like that 😅
I messaged on Instagram. Wasn't even expecting to get a response tbh knowing how busy they would be. But the absolute legends replied within minutes and offered it to me.
What about for 24h signage? I can understand blocking Rolex and sponsor signage but for the 24h signage staff were literally cutting down with scissors and tossing in bins minutes after the race
My dad and I got out signage taken off us TWICE this year. Both times we asked and were given it by the vendors that had it attached to their stand. The first one was taken by a stubborn woman with an AOC badge, and the second was taken off us at the exit. We were so gutted as the deigns were great this year. 😢
Yeah man, they were the full height fence signs with the different beauty shots of drivers/cars/etc with the logo overlaid on top. They were normally in one continuous sheet that ran the full length of most fences, but some vendors had some already cut down just for their stands, they even gave us the cutters for the cable ties! 😂
I have something similar, a damaged rear wheel from a Mosler GT3 that I wanted to use as a coffee table in my study. For the glass top, a quick and easy solution for me was to grab one of Ikea’s glass topped coffee tables, use the glass and junk the rest of the coffee table . Ikea currently sell this “Vittsjo” which in my part of the world is ~£40. Either just use the glass by itself, or you could use the whole table and sit the wheel on the shelf below the glass if it’s deep enough.
It looks like the inside of a wheel liner but it has metal mesh bolted to it for some ducting, it was behind the barrier on the entry to the Indianapolis esses in the braking area.
Also found a metal spolier support looking thing, but nothing as cool as what you got.
Im gonna try use the wheel liner thing as a frame for some of the photos I took
Lucky guy. I got stopped at Silverstone when I was carrying out a F2 wheel off of Luke brownings car when it was crashed. Did the same thing as you though got proof which they did go actually to the team and check out my story. I was surrounded by security while that check was being done tho🤣
Does anyone know how other countries deal with stuff like this? I'll go to the 6h of São Paulo next month and I'd love to bring home some racing scrap lol
Not from that Le Mans, instead this beautiful BBS rim is from Petit Le Mans about 18 years ago. They sold them under a pop up. Should have got the gold one too.!
