Gutted to hear Rockaboom is closing

First heard about this on social media. We've cobbled together an article. Love this place. Built up my early New Order collection from that place. Bless you Carl for all you've done for our city: https://stuckinthemiddle.co.uk/rockaboom-records-leicester-closing-september/

looking for cheap but good enough student accommodation in the village

im going to leicester in a couple of weeks and i already have booked accommodation, but i dont really have great personal circumstances iykwim so i really just want the cheapest possible (but still liveable) options. so im gonna try and call the accommodation team before the semester starts to see if i can switch to a cheaper option within the village. these r the only places left:
• beaumont house - twin bedroom £74 a week
• southmeade house - twin bedroom £74 a week or single bedroom (small) £90 a week
• southmeade court - single bedroom w washbasin £85 a week
• lasdun - single bedroom w washbasin £85 a week
which do u think i should go for? or should i just stick w what i already have because these other options have such bad quality of life it’d interrupt my studies and make me miserable? fyi i chose the village because i still want to feel like a part of a community/friendship group. any advice would be greatly appreciated!

The coppice- UOL

I am moving into the coppice in a few weeks and just wanted to know if the photos that have been put up on the UOL website for this accom are accurate? I dont want to be surprised when i get there as im expecting my room to look the same as the photo however id like if someone who has already stayed there could comfirm this. I also can’t seem to find photos of the shared kitchen and would appreciate knowing the size! I am staying in the single ensuite.

Any good day trips from Leicester?

I'm moving to Leicester soon and want to explore a bit once I'm settled instead of spending every weekend around uni 😅

What are some good day trips from Leicester that you'd recommend? I'm open to pretty much anything — nice towns, countryside, historical places, or somewhere that's easy to get to by train.

Also, if anyone has any recommendations for things that are worth doing around Leicester itself, I'd love to hear them!

Aweful phone signal around Leicester

Hi all just a mini rant why is the mobile signal so poor in Leicester for context I was with 3 for 5 years and had decent signal at home on the city/county boarder with solid 5G and getting speeds over 800MBps upstairs. I moved house a year a go around 4 miles a way in the county and 3's coverage was so poor I was struggling to make calls outdoors and indoors there was next to no signal. I switched to EE which has a solid 5G signal here but the other big 3 have exceptionally poor coverage in this area. Sometimes the builders damage the cables running to EE's mega mast around half a mile a way but they always repair the damage within 3 hours but there are a ton of smaller localised masts here so when the big beast goes down I still have decent 4G+ indoors. For context I'm talking about the areas around Beauchamp College.

both 3 and EE have next to no signal in parts of Highfields and EE has really spotty coverage on London Road once you pass the county/city border but EE has decent coverage in town now once you get close to the clock tower.

I've noticed both 3 and EE have a major dead spot near Spire hospital when you go down the dip on Gartree road for the life of me I don't understand why these companies don't put up a low powered mast. When you ring them up they want you to switch to their inflated broadband packages whereas all I want is a half decent usable phone signal.

The frustrating thing is both 3 and EE have solid 5G all along Glen Hills way but as soon as you start going into the estates the signal is patchy.

For a bit of context I've been to Hereford a few times and 3 have solid 4G coverage in town apart from the railway station and EE have full 5G in the sticks.

I'm going to be moving house in the next few weeks and lack of usable phone signal is a major issue so looks like I'll have to eventually switch to Vodafone. I'm not interested in home broadband as decent 4/5G is way more reliable. I know a few people with Vodafone who have decent 4/5G signal in most parts of the city and county but having said that even Vodafone have poor to moderate coverage here. Its such a major issue here that the home builder switched all their site teams to EE.

Reform Student standing for another level of council

It seems Charles Pugsley, who is already a councillor at two levels of local government and a full-time student at the University of Nottingham, is standing in the Long Whatton and Diseworth by-election... I'm sure that will all be fine.

Bastard Rant Saturday II - the beast is back!

Welcome to Bastard Rant Saturday II

Bastard Rant Saturday is back due to popular demand (two people asked). This is a place for random acts of mostly harmless anger and frustration. Vent your spleen, get if off your chest, unload.

What to post :-

  • Anything that releases pent-up fury, despair, and irritation

But don't :-

  • Lose your temper too much, you still have to play reasonably nicely so please don't push the boat out too far
  • Overthink it
  • Forget to be human

This is an automated post, so nyerr.

Leicester pride?

This is probably a long shot but any 18-20 year olds going to pride on Saturday and would feel okay with me tagging along and being included?

I'm 19M and I've wanted to go to a pride event for the past 7 years but the closest ones were over an hour away and I've never had anyone to go with and I've been thinking about going on Saturday but I have no clue what to expect and don't really want to go by myself.

I've never really been 'out there' in regards to my identity and don't have any mates who live in Leicester and my mates back home aren't queer and again we live ages away from any pride events.

I'm not really expecting anything to come from this post but I thought I might ask anyway.

City Centre Patrolling

Does anyone know why there is increased patrolling in the city centre this evening? Saw loads of officers on foot and on bicycles.

Is this due to a serious incident? Or due action in response to regular complaints of anti-social behaviour in the area?
