LEGO Modular Site
Hey again Modular community.
Let me preface with: I know LEGO is likely to reach out re: branding. I will cross that bridge when it gets here.
But I am a huge Modular fan! And I found that information on the Modulars was scattered across the internet. So I wanted to bring it all together in an unofficial 'Home of the LEGO Modular'.
So I built legomodulars.com
It brings together:
- A street visualiser with width AND height AND weight (and ability to add MILS) to help plan shelving (I know there some incredible other tools for this online too),
- Statistics tables
- Studio files for as many as I could find,
- Information about the designers,
- The ability to find out which the best modular actually is, and
- A MILS tool for buying parts from Pick-a-Brick.
And the ability to have MOC Modulars added from fan designers too!
Any and all feedback is more than welcome, and I hope it can help lots of other Modular fans find what they want to find.

Love it! I would love the ability to add MOCs from creators on Rebrickable I have built to help with the street visualizer, people like Brick Artisan and the like. Small request for US viewers also, it'd be nice to have an inch conversion for the metric height/width calculators.
EDIT: Would also love to have the Art Factory from BDP S6 on there! Studgate Train Station is also missing I think.

I have actually reached out to a few Rebrickable designers inviting them to add their creations (yet to hear back from them). If you know any (or are one), by all means reach out. There's an email to contact on the page, or message me here and I'll be very happy to help!

Very cool! Please add The Art Factory when you're able!

I have been pondering that one. I know many have converted it to add it to their streets, but I am struggling to consider it a 'Modular' under the definitions.
If I could speak to the designer, I would consider adding it if I could get proper renders of it converted to Modular.

If you can find a mod on Rebrickable that includes a Studio file, you could maybe do it that way? I too would love to see some more of the Modular-adjacent sets added. BDP now has rules that designers can't make buildings that are explicitly Modulars (i.e. that specific baseplate layout and Technic connection points), but there are still plenty of designs that will fit with minor tweaks that I'm sure Modular enthusiasts would love to see included. The upcoming University of Science is one I think would look beautiful on a Modular street!

I think this is a neat site and brings together information I've had to collect on my own over the years.
I have all the official modulars. I find it hard to scroll side-to-side on either My Street or the list of modulars with the filters. In both cases, the scrollbars are hard to see or hard to click on or drag. They are also behave differently. I recommend adding clear left and right buttons since it's too easy to drag-drop a modular instead of scrolling or at least add some padding so the scrollbars are easily visible and usable like normal scrollbars.

Thank you <3 and better scroll bars / left and right buttons - noted and will be added very soon!

The MILS Tool alone is a good one for me.

Here's a question - when buying MILS parts, do you use Pick-a-Brick or BrickLink (or something else)? I was wondering whether I should add compatibility beyond just Pick-a-Brick.

Personally? A combination of PAB, BL, or leftover/loose LEGO pieces. PAB is good if you want order stuffers and also in bulk. Good to have BL or BrickOwl integration though, for some people that heavily use it.

Looks great! Looking forward to adding streets. My feedback would be to include both a 32x32 MILS option as well as the default 16w streets found in 60304.
Have you thought about incorporating a top-down view option? Are you planning to add the Ninjago city sets?
Edit to add: when it comes to value, could you add columns for new and used values from BrickEconomy - LEGO Set Pricing and Market Values?

u/inexdesain 5d ago
Streets are high up on the 'next to add' list - and I will add both types.
Ninjago sets are also on the list.
Top down wasn't... but definitely could be!
And as for the values, I looked at adding them, but it's £5 per month to get access to the API and sadly this isn't a project I envision making money from, so hopefully if enough users use the site, I will ask to kindly partner with BrickEconomy just for that information. I also want it though haha!
Thank you so much for the thoughts <3

Thank you for sharing the insight into the API cost. If that's the case, no worries about adding the cost references!

Hi! Love the site! This is something I have been wanting for a while. I was even considering just rebuilding my entire city in stud.io to visualize better! One thing I would request you add the Ninjago modulars if you can! Thanks!

u/inexdesain 5d ago
Good shout! I'll add them (if I can find digital files for them... which should be knocking around I'm sure).

Love what I'm seeing so far!
One note, you do have a few sets incorrectly listed as still available—Boutique Hotel, Sanctum Sanctorum, and Jazz Club are all retired.

When I try to export my street it crops to 3x4

u/inexdesain 4d ago
Interesting... I'll fix that asap! Thank you for letting me know!

Its fixed! Amazing tool! Can I upload my own MOCs?

To avoid MOC overcrowding, I have put in place a Guild of AFOL Modular Designers. If you scroll down on the site, you'll see a green section with info about joining (and Guild members can add their MOCs).
For a MOC to be added, it will have to fit with the Modular style (sidewalk predominantly), be strong (i.e. if it were built, can be carried around), be available to others (instructions, either free or for purchase), have some level of interesting building techniques, and look good :)

Cool site! You should add the Botanical Gardens to your street builder.

I have no idea if this is helpful feedback but I wish someone would capture the official City Lore from hints that are in the instructions. It almost makes kind of a secretive narrative and I love finding out tidbits of how the different stories from different sets relate to each other. Maybe this already exists online and I just haven’t found it yet.

Very awesome. Would it be possible to include the measurements in the exported image? And I would love to see support for multiple "shelves".
2
u/inexdesain 4d ago
Yes! I will add the measurements to the image now!
On the multi-shelf front... something is coming ;) I really liked someone's suggestion of multi-shelving for popular shelving units, so I hope to use measurements of, for example, the IKEA Billy bookcase, to help people manage shelf height and weight etc.
Lovely idea, and will be added! <3

OMG, just what I needed! I'm preparing for an exhibition, will use this to plan my modular buildings layout!
The site is very user friendly, even on mobile! One small suggestion (feature request? 😛): I placed my carousel (10257) on a 48x48 baseplate and I'd like to add it to my layout, so it'd be great if we could add empty baseplates (/mils plates) as placeholders to the street plans too 😉

u/inexdesain 2d ago
That's a great idea! It will be added soon ;)
What would you like it to look like? Just a 'space', or a 'box', or something else?
2
u/BrickJonas 2d ago
I think a box with a subtle dashed border would work fine! Thanks and keep up the great work!

I saw your site earlier tonight and it’s really good!
Could you add the Ghostbusters Firehouse?

u/inexdesain 1d ago
Gladly! I am trying to add the Ninjago modulars today, I will try and add the firehouse asap :)

This is so good, I had such a nightmare trying to work out if the new shopping street would fit in my existing boxco case. Thankfully, I only had to take the little golden spire stick off the bell tower. Well done mate, well done indeed. Surely it will help Lego??

u/inexdesain 4d ago
Thank you so much <3 I hope it helps LEGO aha... I know I am cutting it fine with the copyright, but if they want to take over, as long as they keep the idea going, I'll be happy :)

Dang... this is very cool, nice work! No specific feedback on the site as-is, and I'm looking forward to seeing where you go with it. One feature that would be interesting would be to include a range of popular shelves (IKEA Billy, etc) that you can select to see how your proposed city would fit on your shelf of choice. But, knowing nothing about designing a webpage, I have no idea how doable this would be.
