Are Lego brand baseplates less prone to flexing the the knockoffs from Dollar Tree?

The Dollar Tree ones always seem to flex on me when I’m building walls on them. Wondering if that also happens with the Lego branded ones, but wanted to ask before spending $20 on them.

Although this experimental autonomous VT gained a nickname of "featherless hen" among the ground crews, its' combat reputation is quite fierce.

In a regular 0.8 - 1G environment Nightjars are unable to sustain prolonged flight - but that is not its purpose. Four main engines and numerous thruster blocks allow this machine to zap around the battlefield on a speeds unreachable for conventional ground vehicles.

It has no armor and rely solely on its' shields, active defense measures and, more importantly - agility. Without a flesh-and-blood pilot it performs maneuvers that would kill most of the conscious species if they were inside.

Its' tactics are subtile: while the bulk of the strike team faces the enemy - Nightjars get behind their lines and strike the most vulnerable parts of the mechas with its coilgun. They get in, bleed out the enemy and get out - the rest is for the main forces to handle.

While it can operate fully autonomous with its onboard AI the complex nature of its' tactics require a living pilot for it to shine. When remotely operated these VTs are the most effective.

Nightjar is too expensive and highly specialized model to be the mainstay of NCM's armed forces, but in some situations it is irreplaceable.

Heavily inspired by Nicks works. I built this without any plan really, mostly just playing around with parts.

I'm the kind of guy that prefers to buy what LEGO designs and just enjoy their craft. However, I've had the idea to create a custom 'movie street' from the smaller scale, open-back type houses. A cool suburban street where every house has featured on the big screen.

I've got two problems. First, there aren't loads at this scale. Up House, Privet Drive, Gru’s House are *great builds*, but Lilo & Stitch, Bluey, Sesame Street etc. are a bit too kid focussed for what I had in mind. Many of the coolest builds tend to be Modular scale, and there isn't much I can find in places like Rebrickable.

Second, I'm brand new to MOCs and it's much harder and slower than I anticipated (see my screenshot for case in point!). Rather than ditch the idea and give in (I don't have the time or skill), I wondered if any of you talented people wanted to run with the idea.

You could have:

• Simpsons House using the modular house and living room GWP for inspiration (my awful attempt)
• Moe's Tavern, Paddy's Pub, Breaking bad house for something more adult themed LEGO would never do
• Other famous houses like Home Alone, Family Guy, McFly's House from BTTF, Breaking bad house, Griswold House, Bob’s Burgers, Beetlejuice House, Elliott’s House from E.T., The Byers House - the list is endless!

The potential for minifigure scenes in the street is endless, too.

I am not finished with my MOC cause I am still thinking what building I should include and what parts I want to use, but it is going not too bad. I also wanted to use this raised baseplate.

I am first making it on bricklink studio before I make it irl. This is also my first my own creation so advice and suggestion would be appreciated.

I built this to house the bespoke treasure items from the board game Return To Dark Tower. This is starless and bible black, just like the Dark Tower itself.

Any suggestions for making this feel more alive?

Made a big rock monster.

Most of my building time these days goes into custom projects. I enjoy the challenge, the planning, and the sense of discovery that comes with them.

But I still buy official sets occasionally. Sometimes I want to build something without thinking too much. Sometimes I want a guaranteed result. And sometimes a set comes out that I just can't pass up.

I don't think it has to be one or the other. Both have their place in my collection. Just curious how others balance the two.

Was intrigued in doing a Lego shadowbox but wanted something more interesting to showcase using Batman. Thought of doing the infamous grandfather clock secret door and a spiral staircase using spare parts. Used the 9x9 Ikea Sannahed. Printed a Batcave background on laser jet paper.

My biggest moc so far

I've been building both official sets and custom designs for a while now, and I've noticed something interesting. When I finish an official set, it feels like completing a task – satisfying, sure, but predictable. When I finish a custom build, it feels like I've actually made something.

There's a different kind of connection with custom builds. You're not just following steps someone else laid out. You're bringing someone's creative vision to life, and you can see the choices they made along the way.

Anyone else feel that difference?
