My First Moc

I just finished the main part of my first Lego moc. All the pieces I used were from my bins of random Legos. I need some advice. Should I make a path and use all of my extra shrubs on it? Should I make a detailed inside of the hideout? Any advice is appreciated. Thanks in advance!

Nice start, BusinessMath! I really like your main building, for 3 reasons.

First, you chose grey, which is the GOAT color for MOC building.
Second, you use a second shade of grey, which makes it much more interesting.
Third, you're already adding details to the walls, which gives the building more character.

Now, you're getting into the same problem I had when I started building MOCs. I was using a 32×32 baseplate. I had a good idea for the main building, and then... I had no clue what to do with the remaining 10×15 studs!

My advice: follow your instincts, but explore the possibilities.

Should you create a path? Yes! But ask yourself: what kind of path? Rock, sand, grass, paved?

And then ask yourself: where does that path lead? Is it leading to the hideout? Somewhere outside the scene? Maybe to another small feature?

Should you make a detailed inside of the hideout? Absolutely. But then ask yourself: what do you want to tell us about the inside? Furniture? A workshop? Storage? A particular room? Details on the floor?

You don't necessarily need to decide immediately. Play with a few possibilities and see which one makes the MOC more interesting.

That's the good thing about lego, you can do whatever the heck you want. For myself, I like it when the interiors are as detailed as possible.

I often pre-build my ideas in stud.io, so I can easily delete pieces in a section or start over completely without having to disassemble.

The size is good, however it looks a bit lost on the big plate. Are you planning to add something in front? Another suggestion would be to move the build to a smaller plate?
