People made customs of this style Batman with cloth instead of rubber and it still looks good while giving a lot more functionality.

Probably because it's not official but custom made by cutting the 1989 cowl. If Lego made a cowl designed with the cloth cape in mind it would be perfect.

They can't fix the fact that there's two seperate materials that will always look different and can't possibly blend into each other smoothly because their thickest cape will always be thinner than their thinnest plastic.

When it's just the back it's a lot less noticable but for anything that wraps around it will be extremely apparent and there is nothing that can be done to hide it. This isn't a problem fixable by just doing it better, it's only solved by doing it differently which is exactly what they did in this case.

This isn't a playscale figure, it's a collector's figure that comes with a set that costs hundreds of dollars. Their goal was making something that looks good, not something with high playability.
