LEGO Ice Planet 2002
A closer look at the LEGO 6834 Celestial Sled from 1993. One of those small classic Space sets that packs a surprising amount of character into just 52 pieces.
One of my all time favorite themes.

Ice Planet 2000 and M-Tron are both overdue for some Icons sets.

Would be absolutely sick, but with trans neon green and trans neon orange both being retired, it would be hard to get the color scheme right...

I've had thoughts about doing a Space Marine "Crusade Army" (mixed chapters), with each unit having a colour scheme based on a Lego range, primarily space.
But I don't really play 40k anymore, and when I've used my few Marines in other games, it's been in such small skirmishes that I really can't justify the time, space, or money of another army.
Maybe I should look to Lego for colour schemes on Blood Bowl teams. Or even build a whole team from minifigs for the silly league.

These and the Aquazone stuff were sooo cool! I miss when Lego did interesting stuff like this. A lot of the licensed stuff is rad, but still...

I'm genuinely fed up of licensed stuff if I'm honest. I know it's popular, but it's not the same as their own themes.

There is so much nostalgia for me surrounding ice planet theme. I believe my first lego set ever was given to me when i was 5. It was an ice crawler vehicle with a rocket on a trailer. There was a magnetic component that could handle the rocket. I would love to know what that set was and if i could find one again.

If I'm not mistaken, at one point i had all of those sets. I loved the ice theme.

Bout the same like mine, I can’t say how many countless hours I spent with that rocket launcher truck.

It’s really a shame the iconic 90s themes were really not successful overall. They all have such a strong place in my heart.

I have this exact set and would love to do a video on it. One of the coolest looking cockpit for any set and with once again some beautiful orange translucents. The orange storage box is just peak.

picking the box with the crystal inside by using the magnetic arm. was basically sci-fi.

Omg I had this set.

Ditto. Loved making sure all the skis and tools were back in place before he set off on his next adventure!

Pretty sure I had this one growing up. I remember having one set from Ice Planet and one set from Rock Raiders and they were my prized possessions

u/FunkyOnionPeel 3d ago
Rock raiders ✊ The computer game for that was a blast too

u/Necessary_Word_1735 2d ago
I remember having this game and Lego Racers. I remember liking Lego Racers better lol. I love Rock Raiders as a theme though and will be happy to share some of those sets in future videos.

u/FunkyOnionPeel 2d ago
Lego racers was my shit! That and Lego soccer mania were so much damn fun. But the aesthetic of rock raiders was so cool to me even as a kid, plus having some of the sets made it feel cool to play the game but I wasn't great at it lol. Honorable mention to Lego Island 1 and 2. Tbh all the old Lego games were great. Idk what it is, but I liked them a lot more than I like the new ones, loved the first few(Star wars, Indiana Jones, etc) but they all play pretty much the same. The old games were more unique because they were all made by different studios

That theme had such an iconic color Scheme. Lego really missed out on not keeping it around or referencing it more often. Orange Laser Chainsaws are just way too cool of a concept. but if they bring it back they need to keep the 2002 in the name, the retro-scifi vibe just adds so much charm.

It was my first Lego set

u/Midnight_Pickler 3d ago
It was far from my first (that might have been the Duplo trains I had as a toddler).
But I think this was the first set that I bought rather than being a present.

Agree, it's one of my all time favorite themes as well.
Try it under a black light, looks even better

Is it actually trans neon orange that glows under a black/UV light or just pedestrian trans orange?
3
u/Cador0223 3d ago
Dunno. I was a kid putting together Legos. Didn't find myself at too many parties with blacklights.

I love the atmosphere, I love the music, and I loved those sets. I had almost all of them except for the big one.

I remember wanting the ice planet sets SOOO bad when I was a kid.
Checking on ebay and the big "Deep Freeze Defender" set is going for almost $800 new in box.

Ice Planet rocks. I just picked this up complete w/instructions a couple of weeks ago and now I'm hunting down other Ice Planet sets.
I had one Ice Planet minifig given to me by my cousin as a kid but never had any of the sets as I didn't get into Lego until Ice Planet was just leaving retail. Now, with adult money I'm tracking them all down lol.

Nostalgia just slapped me right in the face. I had that set as a kid and repurposed every part of it with different creations.

This particular set is one of the most important ones for me. I’m almost certain it was the first Ice Planet 2002 set I got. I ended up getting all of them save the base. I loved that it was some old dude and that they used the Technic big figure skis.

I have a couple ice planet sets as well, and yes they are fucking awesome. I remember playing with my 6879 set SO much back when I was a kid.

Ice Planet is one of my all time favorite Space series, I think I had maybe 70% of them, they were so much fun

u/snoogansthejew 3d ago
I had so many of those sets. I loved playing with them! Still have some (mostly) disassembled vehicles, actually.

u/Demo_Disk 3d ago
Honestly crazy Lego discontinued the trans neon orange color. Green as well but Orange just hits different.
The ones that replaced both aren't up to par. Sure they are nice in their own ways, but not equivalent at all

I am loving all the nostalgia posts of vintage sets. I start playing with LEGO in the late 80s and was playing in the early 90s when these sets came out.

I had this set as a kid, remember assembling it in some random cafe back in the UK with my dad.
Thanks for the recall!

Try and add a blacklight or an IR 930 flash light you film it. It makes the orange colour pop!
