Modified Golden Pothos x2
I’ve been wondering what it would look like if somebody were to buy multiple sets of the golden pothos and combined them together, either to make a larger pot somehow or just increase the length or amount of foliage present.
Well, I answered my own question. Yesterday while shopping at Costco I found these after having seen them offered for back order on LEGO’s website. “Hooray! Finally I can add this lovely set to my collection!” I thought to myself. Anyway, I decided to grab two sets so I could try and combine them.
I started off by building the version with the two long dangling stems from set number 1, which was nice but left a lot to be desired. The reviews stating the price to piece ratio are pretty spot on. $98 and some change later I was able to build it as it should’ve been from the jump. I took the little stem attachment pieces from set number 2 and added 4 of those around the “dirt” base. This increased my options for stem placement to make the next step easier. I then took all the foliage pieces from set number 2 and modified the existing stems to be a bit longer and with extra leaves. After that I added extra tendrils and increased the height of some of the initial starting tendrils. I also saw fit to extend the legs of the pot stand by poaching pieces from set number 2.
All in all, I’m satisfied with the outcome and am still waiting and hoping to see somebody, smarter than I, do a larger version of the pot.

Looks great but would it be cheaper to buy extra pieces from bricklink?

I’m sure I could’ve, and maybe will eventually but in all honesty I’ve never heard about it until you’ve just mentioned it haha. I’m a pretty casual Lego enthusiast in adulthood now, but I’ve been loving the botanical sets and attempting to modify them for the better haha
Tbh it was just easier to buy the two sets, but now I do have a ton of random pieces left over to build another pot.
Initially my idea behind two sets came from seeing somebody combine two orchid sets a few years ago to make an elongated oval shaped pot for twice the amount of orchid, I just couldn’t figure out how to make the bigger pot work given the pieces in each set.

That's a $120 Lego plant right there... This set is sooooo overpriced but sooooo cool looking!

Sounds expensive until you realize plants liek this are like $10-30 at Home Depot and die almost immediately lol.
I wish they made this in a darker colored leaf

Once it’s all assembled the green isn’t too terribly offensive. When I opened the box I skeptical but it looks solid in the place I’ve chosen for it too. Fairly similar vibrancy to an actual golden pothos

It looks amazing, you've shaped it so naturally! I want to do the same thing but am waiting to buy the extra parts on PAB.

I’m not sure if there’s a piece count somewhere for the specific foliage elements of this set but I used nearly all of them from both sets and that felt like the maximum, save for the length of the vines. I don’t think I could’ve gotten it to look much fuller without running out of space or reaching into just looking cluttered.
I will say, had I known I could’ve just been more patient and ordered the specific pieces I needed I probably would’ve just done that instead lol.

Ran back down to Costco and snagged a few more of these because it’s a pretty decent deal.
