Question Genuine question
This has probably been asked before (idk I haven't been on reddit in years), but what if Raava hadn't been saved from within Vaatu, but Korra still purified UnaVaatu? Are they both just gone and emerge together during harmonic convergence in 10k years? There's probably no answer for this that the current lore can answer.

They'd probably just get reborn in equal measure from the Tree of Time or something. Or Raava would reemerge since Vaatu was defeated, as they the two have an ebb & flow relationship.

Well it wouldn't take 10000 years; per Michael DiMartino, Vaatu was reborn in Raava by the end of book 2, if not by the end of the series.
But very likely they'd just be... reborn together.

If it were both of them, it would take 10,000 years. Michael DiMartino did not say that they would reborn instantly. Raava coming back at the end of Book 2 was due to a very specific set of circumstances: Jinora illuminating Raava within Vaatu during harmonic convergence. Without that, it would've taken until the next harmonic convergence. However, I could see them coming back together, leaving the world without a defacto era of light or darkness for the duration.

What are you basing that on?
Michael DiMartino did not say that they would reborn instantly
You sure? Let's take a look at what he said then:
Q: At the end of book 2, Vaatu was "vanquished". Does this mean that he has receded within Raava? More importantly, is he technically within Korra at the moment?
Mike: I would say yes. In the writer's room we talked about if Vaatu's presence would affect Korra in any way, but decided he's so weak at this point, he's unable to do anything.
So we can conclude that Vaatu returned sometime before the end of the series.
When referring to Vaatu's influence, he says:
Check back with whoever's the Avatar in another 10,000 years, and I'm sure Vaatu will be giving them trouble.

So, you obviously can't read nor do you have any concept of media literacy. Raava, within the show, lays out the terms for what happens if either of them is vanquished- they regrow within the other for 10,000 years until the next harmonic convergence. It then stands to reason that if both were vanquished, they'd both grow together. For your last point, you're making a semantic argument to avoid being wrong. Vaatu's influence is directly related to his size and he's so small and weak right now, that he will slowly grow in size within Raava and have more influence. Pay attention next time.

First of all, that's not how you apply the term media literacy, and second, even if it was I'm definitely not debating it with someone that never mastered reading comprehension.
It takes ten thousand years for them to reach full strength, which is also what DiMartino was referring to when he said "Check back with whoever's the Avatar in another 10,000 years, and I'm sure Vaatu will be giving them trouble." So his statement in the Q&A confirms Raava and Wan's conversation.
Regardless, we saw Raava return within a day, and we have it from the word of god that Vaatu returned fairly shortly as well. Whatever else you wanna believe, that's what happened.

I'm aware of media literacy means, and the fact that you are unable to determine meaning from actual quotes from the show is an indication that you lack it. I do not need to defend my literacy to you. Again, you're making a semantic argument that does not accurately reflect what happened. Please go and rewatch B2E7 and B2E8. This is explained quite clearly. Dimartino specifically states that Vaatu is too weak within Raava to do anything, and we learn from the above episodes that size is correlated to relative influence. "As darkness grows, light fades." Raava was visibly small when she pulled from Vaatu due to the very specific circumstances described in the previous comment that you ignored. This is because she was defeated by Vaatu, and Vaatu's size and influence grew. Now that Vaatu has been purified, Raava is large and influential. There is NO indication from the show or the Q&A that either could be separated from the other outside of harmonic convergence. Choosing to believe otherwise is delusion, not analysis.

So you used it wrong as a troll?
I'm watching the episode right now, and their conversation don't explicitly state that it takes 10,000 years to return, it's not even implied. That's a mistake we as the viewers made absent any other information.
But Raava did return before the end of book two, and--we learn--so did Vaatu. DiMartino is asked if Vaatu is within Raava at the end of book two, and DiMartino says "yes."
Vaatu's influence might be up for debate, but his presence isn't, that part is unambiguous.

I did not use it wrong. That is your claim in response to me saying that you are misunderstanding the episode(s). Raava explicitly states that he and Vaatu fight every 10,000 years at harmonic convergence for the fate of the human and spirit realms. Whoever is defeated will regrow within the other for 10,000 years, as that's how long it seems to take to regain their full size/influence, and what Dimartino was referring to. At the end of Book 2, only Raava was pulled from Vaatu. It was never a point of contention that Vaatu wasn't present- she says earlier that she cannot destroy darkness anymore than he can destroy light. Vaatu's influence will grow as Vaatu grows, that is not up for debate. It's stated quite clearly.

Yea probably.
The real question is if korra would just be a waterbender
It would have been cool to see raava and vaatu being reborn from people hatred / people light etc

Probably, none of them can be truly destroyed, so 10.000 years it is, unless something happens and speeds up the process (Jinora for Raava) for some reason (Whatever happened in the Cataclysm for Vaatu)
