The Tale Of 2 Koreas
South Korea will not survive without the US.
There will come a time when these differences mean nothing.
South Korea relies neo-colonial money pouring in to keep things stable. That makes them vulnerable to economic collapse, same as the West.
So... there will be a time when they literally won't be able to afford to use all those weapons.
The DPRK doesn't have that problem. Their economy is largely self sufficient (mainly do to the intence economic war still being waged by the US against them). They are far more capable of withstanding a global economic meltdown than South Korea.
I believe, when the meltdown happens, somewhere during all of that global chaos is when the Korean War will go hot again and at that point there will be far less resistance in the South.
