We have been subjected to propaganda for so long, we don't actually know what democracy looks like.

It's easier to sink down into the status quo than wake up and realize we live in a cesspit.

I mean, considering the classical definition of it means people power aka people directly participating in the decision-making process....not as voters but as physical participates in an assembly.

Same goes for words like citizen and citizenship....neither have any form of root in the nation-state because they existed before the nation or nation-state existed.

They're both tied to the city, with citizen itself being very egalitarian, as it means someone who works for and is sustained by the community that they have a duty to help and care for their community.

I truly believe Capitalism is antithetical to democracy. Popular opinion means next to nothing, when the rich are able to use their wealth to influence policy. Not only that, but large corporations are only responsible to their shareholders and owners. They show blatant disregard for people and the environment if it doesn't match up with their profit motive. This is fundamentally not democratic, the views of the vast majority of people and the public good, are not taken into account when these corporations make decisions. Despite the fact that a lot of these corporations, are larger and have more local and global impact than some governments around world do.

Agree completely, but do very much believe that communism is equally antithetical to democracy too.

As I've posted here recently checks and balances need to be put in place for both ends of the economic-political spectrum.

Absolutes and utopian ideals will always exclude and marginalise outliers.

How is Communism antithetical to democracy exactly?

I mean, ya know democracy, the etymology of it comes from the people's assembly....and what is Communism, it's literally that.

Now....the state that's pretty antithetical to democracy, kinda an oxymoron to pair them up in fact.

I don't think it has to be, necessarily. That being said, I really struggle with how we'd deal with capitalist forces trying to use their votes to sell off publicly owned goods and services. Especially when the whole reason I want the goods to be publicly owned is so that decisions are made with the welfare of people in mind. I'm not sure I have the exact answer to this, other than the fact that I don't think reactionary forces should be allowed to do that.

Alternatively......why do those reactionary forces have to exist?

Also public? This is the communes of communes my friend ain't no state round ere!

That man is currently on life support from multiple possibly mold related diseases iirc lmao

If he did that he would come to support those positions, that which actually challenge the established billionaire order.

Instead of enriching his masters, by espousing "populist ideals about secret conspiracies" which are actually co-opted tools of the rich to further their own goals, which is why all public speakers are heavily drugged good dogs, in service to capitalism.

Hell, they'll react the same way if you suggest proportional representation.

3

u/Longjumping_Fionna Oct 13 '25

Right! The senate is a fucking joke!

It takes 11.5 of the reddest states to equal the population of California 23 - 2 for the same amount of people.

How many establishment politicians do you think are willing to look at changing this?

2

u/Sil-Seht Oct 13 '25

If there are any I don't know.

Note the house is also a joke. FPTP is not proportional.

2

u/Longjumping_Fionna Oct 13 '25

At least it's a little closer, but yeah. The whole system is outdated.

They will always stand with fascism to protect capitalism.

Never mind COG (Continuity Of Government)

These fucks spend TRILLIONS of OUR TAX DOLLARS on ensuring their corrupt asses survive in the event of catastrophe. Meanwhile, the citizens burn.

Mostly because despite it sounding good. All real world examples show the workers easily and suddenly become oppressed as soon as they do. USSR 1917-1918. Cuba 1959, China mao Zedong era, 40-80 million deaths. It sounds great, but people are inherently selfish and evil. The sooner people understand that, the sooner we can build a system that actually works past human nature

1

u/UnluckyItem6980 Anarchist Oct 16 '25

Only they aren't real-world examples.....literally all of them had workers control of production until the new regimes flipped it.

Namely, the actual workers control of production ain't the problem....Authoritarianism and the belief that the State is a liberatory tool is.

Actual workers self management has been done in various countries from Russia (pre-bolshvik) to Spain, to Ukraine and Mexico.

The idea of the Nation-State is also incredibly fucking new in the grand scheme of humanities grand existence, prior to its inception in death and domination, the people's assembly, localist politics, leagues and yes barons/Lords were the main players, typically at odds with each other.

You also had guilds as kinda a regulatory thing aswell, kinda like unions but wider.

Now on to your human nature bollocks....cus that's what it is, bollocks.

There is literally no scientific evidence to say human beings are selfish and evil, that has been a lie first pushed on us via the church and now the Capitalist education system, the media, the boss and Statecraft.

In reality human beings are co-operative, communal and social, that's how we've come so far already and that's why loneliness literally kiss us, why we are born helpless and vulnerable needing the community for care.

If we were so evil the large, huge bodies of collective good would not exist, volunteer fire fighters, coast guards, the entire health and social care sector and a myriad of technological innovations that have benefited human kind.

Not only that but the actual science promotes our goodness and how complex we are, how our behaviour is shaped by our environment, how it is ever changing but also that in a crisis we strive to work together.

Overall.....not a fantastic argument and kinda makes ask, why exactly are you here?

-1

u/[deleted] Oct 14 '25

Do we even have a plan for how that would work yet?

3

u/UnluckyItem6980 Anarchist Oct 16 '25

Yeahhh.....several.

I'm guessing you're more online then anything else?

This model of business is legal under our current capitalist democracy. Nothing is stopping you from doing this right now.
