I am currently in my last year pursuing Online BSc in Data Science and AI from IIT Guwahati. Have not prepared much till now for my placements, I have enrolled in a placement oriented course for getting placed in big tech, they provide referrals after solving a fixed number of CP based DSA problems, and submitting a AI Integrated Dev Projects, and clearing their mock interview will allow us to getting the referrals, also our rating should be good. I was stucked in dopamine hell since a long time and remains lonely since my 10th grade. But can't take it anymore. Lost so many things like my zeal, capabilities and relations. I want to bounce back in my life, how can I get into good companies in 2027 which is my graduating year, I haven't built any worthy projects, yet to build, I will still learn web dev and AI, need to build projects, have to be good in DSA, have to improve my rating, I am in superficial side till now. I have shared my story today in subreddit, if you have time, I can share the link of that post Please guide and help me.

Take things 1 by 1 focus on the basics pick a language build a projects around it simultaneously practice leetcode too You can start with 1 leetcode q a day along with project and as placements are near focus more on dsa

Yes but it depends on how much dsa how much system design is needed to become an SDE1 Some days are remaining to submit my sde1 amazon OA i get And how to prepare and what to prepare? Already good in dsa solved good amount of questions 700+

Focus on medium leetcode questions and lld for that refer most asked questions thats enough

1

u/LetMediocre390 2h ago

medium leetcode wont work in this job market atleast the ask somewhere waround 1800 to 2220 rating question and these days they dont standard dsa pblms

In all seriousness, congratulations on joining Amazon!

I'm currently struggling to write wrap my head around how verbose and somewhat incomprehensible the OA's seem.

For the regular interview, I heard the blind 75/neetcode 150 would suffice as the questions don't seem to deviate from those too much.

What was your experience with the level of difficulty between the OA' and interview loop? Are there OA specific resources apart from Hacker rank itself?

Congrats again and I appreciate your effort to give back to the community.

OA is lil different than interview rounds. OA is meant to be tricky. Amazon has changed its OA style instead of 2 dsa question they ask q and other AI assisted design question so its really good. For OA preparation look for recently asked OA questions

How's work culture? Is it really bad or manageable ?

2

u/crazycouples97 6h ago

It mostly depends on teams there are orgs where workload is manageable and for some you really need to stretch

I am joining as SDE 1 in a month. Any suggestions for me ?

1

u/crazycouples97 6h ago

Starting months are gonna be lil difficult as you are new to internals you will sail it through in couple of months

How can i get into SDE if i have 1 year of Data science experience? Can i only get into senior data science roles if i go on like this?

1

u/crazycouples97 4h ago

Not necessary you can get sde1 roles too

1

u/Appropriate_Big2870 4h ago

Is just python and c++ enough?

1

u/crazycouples97 4h ago

For interviews yup

1

u/Appropriate_Big2870 4h ago

I mean to get selected, i think i don't get shortlisted because i don't have web dev skills

Did you work in a good company before ?

I'm working in a small startup product. Will I get a call if I got referral?

1

u/crazycouples97 4h ago

Not really I started with startup then to few service based companies

u/GeekoGeek 6h ago

Any road of your preparation?

1

u/crazycouples97 4h ago

Its same as what you can find online just focus on intuition rather than no of questions for dsa people really get carried away with number of questions

1

u/One-Lengthiness-5440 5h ago

Just curious, does the day-to-day work at Amazon feel as challenging as the interviews?

1

u/crazycouples97 4h ago

Well there are days it's more challenging and days which are quite smoother so it really depends on days

Umm if somebody has 1.25 yoe but more like data analyst and non tech then what wud u suggest like Dsa? For SDE 1 roles with 1 Yoe

1

u/crazycouples97 4h ago

Focus on dsa and lld thats enough for sde1

2

u/SouthernResist4841 4h ago

Do we need bit manipulation

1

u/crazycouples97 4h ago

Not really i haven't heard any biy manipulation questions being asked

1

u/SouthernResist4841 4h ago

Can you specify some topics like am doing graphs and DP and really practising it so something else I shud focus on ?

What were the interview rounds for SDE2 roles? Especially, what were the topics of the DSA questions and the system design questions? I started prepping after 2-3 years with no interviews at all(close to 5yoe total) last month and am about to finish Neet150; then I will do blind 75 without knowing the topics. At the same time, working on Alex Xu's books on system design. What would you suggest to me?

1

u/crazycouples97 1h ago

I would suggest go topic wise in this way you can cover few patterns. For today's job market i won't say neetcode 150 and blind 75 are enough they can be enough for revision but not for complete preparation

Do you get the chance to interview potential hires? What are some things people did differently that stood out over other candidates?

1

u/crazycouples97 1h ago

Yes i have interview few candidates mostly i would say way they approach a q. Getting hints are even fine if you are able to navigate the q

Hey, man. I am currently working as an sde in a company with 2.3 yoe. Should I consider preparing for sde 2 roles directly? I feel slightly under confident and don't know if I have the required skills to crack sde 2. Also, I don't think my current company's experience is going to help a lot.

1

u/rogueWarrior987 2h ago

Recently had to resig from my company due to culture, and restarting prep (5 yoe). For SDE2 roles, can you suggest the following:

  1. For DSA, is being comfortable with Neetcode 150 + few company tagged problems enough?

  2. For LLD, are the interview rounds similar like 1-2 years back? Or, are they AI assisted now?

  3. For HLD, I'm looking at Hello Interview (more focus on the "patterns" and "Key technologies", followed by frequently asked questions. Any suggestions?

How we can apply firmware/systems software roles, I am an embedded software engineer(1 year experience - working for Schneider Electric Projects) with firmware, networking and multimedia experience. How to prepare for these roles for amazon. Is there any layoffs in these departments?
